“Yes, you are. Now, what are you going to do about it?”

“I’m going to stop sitting here and feeling sorry for myself and get her back. But first, I plan on spending Christmas here with my favorite girl.”

“You’re such a flirt, you know that?” A light shade of pink covers my mum’s cheeks.

“That’s what the ladies tell me.”

We both let out a loud, boisterous laugh. Everything between Meghan and I won’t be fixed overnight, but she is my forever and that’s all that matters.

Christmas with my mum was just how it used to be when I was younger, filled with lots of love. It would have been better if Meghan had been there with us, but that’s my fault. With an extra suitcase full of presents for her, I return home to Danville with a plan to win her back.

My first order of business is to begin preparations for spring semester. My original plans didn’t leave much time, but I wanted to spend as much time with Meghan as possible away from Danville.

After heading back to my flat and catching a few hours of sleep, I shower and head directly into the office. Lucky for me, the building is still relatively deserted. No one will be back until after the new year, which means I should be able to get all my work done.

I log in to my school email to find an urgent message from the university’s disciplinary committee. I open the email and read.

Dear Dr. Armstrong,

You have been summoned to stand before the Danville University Disciplinary Committee in response to a complaint filed by another faculty member.

We request your presence at a preliminary hearing to discuss it further. Should disciplinary action be required, a second hearing will be scheduled. You may have a representative from the Danville University Professors’ Union present, but it is not required.

Below are the details of the hearing. Please arrive on time, as we will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m. on the day of the hearing.

Sincerely,

Alicia Barnard

Office of Faculty and Student Conduct

There is only one person who could have filed a complaint: Stephanie. Meghan was right all along. I continue reading and notice the date of the hearing is tomorrow, which doesn’t give me a lot of time to prepare. No matter. Thankfully, I took Samuel’s advice and began compiling my case against Stephanie.

“Enough with the games, Stephanie. You’ve gone too far, and now it’s time for you to pay,” I growl into my empty office.

I pull up the hidden files with the information I have on her and hit the print button.

As the pictures and the letters from different faculty members and students print out, I open a Word document and type up my letter of resignation.

I will not be the reason Meghan doesn’t graduate. We may not have parted on the best of terms, but she will graduate. I will take care of her because that is what Daddy promised her he would do.

Daddy always keeps his promises.
