FORD

Ihate leaving Ivy, but after the tabloid drama from this morning, I’m certain Nolan is going to want to see me ASAP. I need to take a minute to explain to Ivy how things are going to change now that she is with me.

I wrap my arms around her waist and pull her into my chest before planting a kiss on her forehead. “Now that the tabloids know we’re together, I need you to be more careful.”

I try to keep my voice as even and neutral as possible, not wanting to let her know how terrified I am of something happening to her because of me.

“It can’t be that bad, can it?” she giggles before throwing her arms around my neck.

Images of all the horrible things that could happen to her filter through my mind. I refuse to let anything happen to Ivy. I lost someone once because of my carelessness and I refuse to let it happen again. Ivy means too much to me; I need to protect her at all costs.

“Yes, it can be,” I say through clenched teeth before burying my nose in her neck. “If anything ever happened to you—”

“Nothing is going to happen to me, Ford,” Ivy says with conviction, gripping my face between her tiny little hands. “I’m right here. Safe in your arms, which is exactly where I want to stay.”

I stare into her eyes and find nothing but trust shining back at me. I should tell her everything. Lay it all on the line. She deserves to know about Talia and my accident, but not yet. I want to hold onto this just a little while longer. Her blind faith in me before it all comes crashing down around us.

“Not on my watch, princess.” I plant a kiss on her forehead before stepping back from her. “Now, we’d better shower and dress quickly before we both get fired.”

She giggles softly before spinning on her heels and heading straight into the bathroom. Thankfully, I manage to keep my dick and hands to myself, and we make it out of the shower and are dressed in record time. I’m never late, but between trying to keep my dick in my pants and my conversation with Jasper, I’m behind schedule.

“Sorry I made you late,” Ivy whispers, slightly bowing her head.

I can’t help but chuckle at the innocent look she’s giving me right now. “They won’t start a damn thing until I get there. I had no intention of leaving until I knew you were safe.”

Before she can protest, I pull her into my chest and kiss her thoroughly.

“Have a good day,” I say with a smile as the elevator doors open and I usher her out the door.

She wobbles slightly as she exits, and I mentally pat myself on the back.

Still got it, old man.

I take my time heading for the production office set up inside one of the conference rooms. Nolan and I might be best friends, but this is his set. He doesn’t need me screwing things up with all these rumors floating around.

As soon as I step into the room, it goes quiet. Everyone makes a slow retreat until the door shuts.

“Glad to see you could finally make it to work,” Nolan deadpans. “It’s not like we have a movie to shoot or anything.”

I shove my hands deep into my jean pockets, doing my best to look apologetic. “Look, man. I’m sorry. Would you believe me if I said nothing happened?”

“Fuck no,” he bellows. “I’ve known you for over twenty years. When you see something, you want, you just take it.”

I make my way across the room and sit down across from him. “This girl is different, Nolan. I don’t know what it is, but I need her.”

“Even if that means making my set a goddamn paparazzi magnet?”

“Jasper is taking care of the issue as we speak. Besides, this was supposed to be a closed set. No one should know I’m even on this snow-covered hellhole.” I cross one leg over the other and stare him down.

“You should be concerned that there’s a spy on your crew. Someone sold me out to the highest bidder.”

“I know. I’m working on it, but you’re not helping things by sticking your dick where it doesn’t belong.”

“That’s where you’re wrong, Nolan,” I growl softly.

He rolls his eyes. “Jesus, Ford. Don’t tell me you’re in love with her.”

My jaw tightens. “I didn’t say that.”
