He didn’t startle when I said his name, as if he’d been expecting me. He turned, meeting my gaze from over his shoulder.

“Hey, El,” he said softly.

I walked closer, right up to the edge of the quilt. Ty didn’t move, but he watched me draw nearer. A look of caution crossed his face.

“What are you doing here?” I had been thinking of him lately. Part of me considered the fact that maybe this was a dream. But he looked so real, and everything in my body was heating. My blood pulsed through my veins.

“Do you want to come sit?” he asked, patting the space next to him. He was facing the creek, even though it was too dark to see the water.

I licked my bone dry lips. “Why are you here?”

He closed his eyes briefly, letting out a quiet, controlled breath. When he opened them again, his gaze collided with mine with so much intensity I almost stepped back.

“I came here to see you,” he said. “I can’t do it anymore, Ellie. I can’t stay away anymore.”

He came here to see me? “How did you even know I would come out here tonight?”

“I didn’t.” He shrugged. “I’ve been coming here every night for the past week. I couldn’t stay away anymore, but I didn’t want to invade your space. I knew you’d come here eventually. You always do.”

My heart physically hurt, in both a good way and bad. There was fear—there was always fear—but there was also joy.He came here for me.

“You’re crazy,” I said, shaking my head.

Ty grinned, his beautiful, snarky half grin I knew so well. “Only crazy about you, Ellie.”
