She pursed her lips, her hands gripping the tops of my thighs. “I know you remember. When we were together that night, Ty, you had to have felt it too.”

Shit. My head hurt. Everything she was saying was hard to take in. “You mean, the night we hooked up?” That had been years ago. And brief. I hadn’t been a guy to hang around back then. I didn’t know why she was bringing it up.

“I loved you, Ty. And I know you loved me too. I felt it when you touched me.” She leaned in again, closing her eyes and pressing her cheek against my chest. “I know it all fell apart.” She jerked back, blinking up at me with wide eyes. “But I forgive you, Ty. We can start over now.”

I stared at her. Something was so very wrong. “Clara,” I said, forcing my tone to be calm. “What happened to Ellie…did you hurt her?”

Her face darkened again. “She isn’t meant for you. I wanted to scare her away from you, but it wasn’t working.”

“You started the fire.” I shook my head as the truth sunk in. The room spun. “Did you mess with her car and break the window too?”

She frowned. “I had to. She was in the way.”

Shock and disgust reverberated through me. How had I not seen this side of her before? What the hell even happened.

Clara’s face softened. She reached up and brushed a hand over my cheek. “Look at you, you’re so pale.” She shushed me like I was a small child. “It’s going to be all right. Don’t worry. You’re mine, now.” She crooned, and a toothy grin spread across her lips. “Forever.”
