Chapter Four

Denier went over the contract first, making changes to the standard terms. When he finished, he presented the contract to her.

Brit went through the clauses, and she tried to not stare with an open jaw at the financial side of things. She went to decrease some of the allowances, and Denier reached over her shoulder and changed them back.

She was to dress in a manner that Denier enjoyed. Apparently, that meant wearing money.

She was also required to accompany him to all social events, including visits to family. She scribbled that when requested, he was to join her at her family events, work permitting.

He chuckled as he read over her shoulder. She agreed that he got to name the male children and that if they were alphas, they would be trained as reapers. She addedunless they had obvious talents they wished to pursue elsewhere.

He murmured, “What do you mean?”

“If a child is born a healer, I will not torture them by asking them to be a reaper.Ifa child is born.”

He inclined his head. “Fair enough.” He authorized the change.

She went on to read his personal preferences for grooming, and she chuckled.

Finally, she had to spend one day every two months with his mother or grandmother in the occupation of their choosing.

She grinned and wrote in that every three months, he had to spend a day with her niece for the occupation of her choosing.

He blinked. “You want her to spend time with a reaper?”

Brit chuckled. “Her birth mother’s mate is an assassin. She’s a precog. There isn’t much that can shock her.”

His grandfather frowned. “Who is the assassin?”

She chuckled. “Salat. His mate, Khytten, has a bio daughter who is just becoming active. I already know that my niece calls this one uncle.” She jerked her thumb at Denier.

He whispered in her ear, “You knew?”

“Of course. I would never have gone off with you otherwise.” She spoke softly. “I would never endanger her life for mine.”

The rest were just legal penalties if she broke the contract or if he did.

She signed, got an ocular scan, and left a drop of blood.

She handed the tablet to Denier, and he looked it over, nodded, and handed it to his grandfather. His father looked it over and grinned at the requirements. “You are going to have to frame this in her house.”

“Probably. I think she will need reminding of what she agreed to.”

The council laughed, and she shrugged. “It is far less invasive than the BDC contract.”

They stopped laughing. His grandfather asked, “You are an escort?”

“No. I am a security risk as an escort, plus it opened an opportunity for abuse.”

Denier wrapped his arms around her. “I only want you to be you.”

“You may occasionally get you as well.”

Denier spoke in a cajoling tone. “I can teach you to shadow walk.”

She looked at his grandfather. “You will nullify the contract?”

He nodded. “Of course.” He pulled out another tablet, signed it, and had the rest of the council sign as well. “It’s done. You are free and clear. Anyone attempting to execute the contract will get a sharp shock and possible immolation.”
