Brit giggled as the men were cautious and wary of the reapers but terrified of Litha.

Denier came and wrapped his arm around Brit, and then, with all watching, he started talking to her belly. “Did you have dessert for lunch again, little one?”

Vallu was laughing, and Sabine and Ylara were taking photos while the mercenaries were getting the hell off Daycross.

Etgar’s men flanked the transport and escorted them back to the ferry.

Brit went back to human and waved at the reapers. Denier was still talking to her belly and stroking it softly. “Sorry guys, he has a new family member, and it’s a better listener than I am.”

The reapers grinned, and a shadowed gargoyle chuckled. “He is lucky. He found his mate.”

Denier looked up at her and grinned, his eyes red. “Yes, I did.”

“Mistress Brit, if you run across any free omegas, do call the reapers. Half of us are alphas and in desperate need of a cheerful omega or, even, a willing active.” He bowed and put his hand over his heart. The huge claws were a little off-putting.

Litha chuckled. “Just enrol with the Blind Date Corporation, have a few dates, if you like her and she likes you, you can ask for an exclusive contract. From then on, it behaves like a normal relationship, and if she agrees, the mask comes off and can stay off.”

The reapers looked at each other. The gargoyle blinked. “It accepts reapers?”

Brit chuckled. “Sure. Denier was banging all kinds of ladies before he and I met. In a fun twist, I was denied status as an escort because I was a security risk.”

Denier chuckled and looped his arms around her hips. “I did not bang that many escorts. Just the necessary amount to take the edge off.”

Brit smiled and stroked his head, playing with his ears. “And now he gets what he needs from me, and I get what I need from him.”

He lifted his head into her hands, and she leaned down to kiss him.Thatgot attention from the reapers. It wasn’t a simple manoeuvre, but it got the men opening their coms and jumping onto the BDC site.

They would have to go through Zera’s rigorous vetting, but since they were already reapers, their mental situation was verifiable. You couldn’t be a contract killer and go off the rails. Not in an organization that prided itself on efficient accuracy.

They walked up to Brit, and Denier remained on his knees with his arms around her. They bowed one by one and then returned to the shadows.

Brit chuckled and fondled Denier’s ears. “You brought all of them.”

“I was in a meeting with them. You called, we answered.”

She laughed. “Thank you for answering my call.”

He stood and touched his nose to hers. “Forever and always.”

She smiled, and he sighed. “And now, I have to rejoin the meeting. Stay safe and call if there are any problems.”

He kissed her again, and she stroked his thick neck and wide shoulders and squeezed his biceps.

He lifted his head. “Don’t tease.”

“Don’t keep me from getting dessert.”

He laughed, kissed the ring he had put on her finger two weeks earlier, and said, “See you for dinner.”

He gave her a light swat on the butt, and then, he walked into the shadows.

Litha finished her ice cream and joined them at their table. “Sorry I was late. My assistant is having issues surrounding her second job.”

Brit returned to her seat at the table. “What’s her second job?”

“The BDC.”

The ladies at the table laughed, and they shared war stories of the BDC and bad dates where the identity of their clients was in doubt. Brit couldn’t join that part of the conversation, but she enjoyed hearing about it. She had married her patron, even though she was never an escort. He had chased her up a tree and swept her off her feet, in that order.
