Chapter Twenty-Five

They’d been dating for about two months when Oleander suggested hosting a dinner for their friends. Jackson had been ready to refuse, but she’d seen it coming. He loved his friends, he wanted all of them to hang out together, but he was also nervous about thisformalsort of meeting. He still hadn’t met this elusive roommate of hers and other than Frankie, he didn’t know if she had more important friends.

So, they were doing it.

To level the playing field, he invited Everleigh as well. When Gavin let it slip during a poker night, Jackson realized that having Ever there would probably help.

This still felt like meeting the family of a girlfriend—obviously Jackson was stressed as fuck. He’d changed his clothesthriceand had almost given up to settle on aStar Warst-shirt when Everleigh had called, insisting he wear something nice.

He was dressed in dark jeans and a green and black flannel button down. Jackson had even put on his comfortable boots. Once he was ready, he met his friends at Milo’s apartment, where they took a cab over to Oleander’s place.

Seeing all of them looking flawless did stress him out a bit, but no matter who was around them, Oleander’s eyes and hands always seemed to find him. That was the important thing to keep in mind. She wantedhim. Not Gavin or Milo. She chose him and Jackson was so eternally grateful.

“Well hello, beautiful people.”Frankie greeted them at the door. He took a moment to appreciate how beautiful she was, but behind her he saw Oleander grinning and his heart started to race.

“Ugh, it’s impossible being in a room with you two.”

Jackson laughed, leaning in to kiss Frankie’s cheek. “It’s always good to see you, trouble.”

Oleander bit her lip as she stepped around the guy she was talking to and Jackson let his eyes sweep over her. They hadn’t seen each other in almost a week; between work and planning this party, it seemed impossible to find the time. Their phones had gotten a lot of action though. Oleander had suggested they try phone sex, which sent her into a fit of giggles when Jackson tried on his seductive voice. Apparently he wasn’t cut out for it.

Jackson moved towards her slowly, one hand gripping his overnight bag and the other itching to touch her. She was wearing a light blue-gray dress that fell mid-thigh and those gorgeous legs were on display. His eyes did another sweep of her beautiful body and smiled, still in shock that she washis.

Oleander laughed as she closed the gap between them, her arms winding around his neck. Jackson slid his free hand around her waist and tugged her against him as he kissed her back. He felt Oleander smile against his mouth and he finally pulled away from her.

“Hi.”

Oleander pouted. “I missed you this week.”

“I missed you too.”

“At least you get me all to yourself this weekend.” Jackson kissed the tip of her nose at the reminder.

“Speaking of the weekend, can I drop my bag off in your room?”

“Let me help you with that, in case you get lost.” Oleander said it loudly, making everyone laugh. He grinned at hisgirlfriendand let her take his hand, leading him to her room.

Once inside, Oleander shut the door and leaned against it, one hand tugging him towards her. Jackson dropped his bag and lifted both hands to cup her cheeks as he dropped his mouth to hers. Her arms were around his waist and Jackson moaned softly as their tongues touched and teased. Oleander’s fingers slid into his hair and he quivered, remembering the last time she’d done that and forced himself to pull away.

“We should get back out there, or they’ll never let us live this down.”

She huffed, tugging his mouth back towards hers. “I don’t care, I just want more of you.”

“Oleander.”

“Ugh, fine.” She rolled her eyes and before he could step away, she kissed him again. Her mouth covered his and Jackson growled when Oleander nipped at his bottom lip, tugging on it gently before releasing it.

As they pulled away, she whispered, “If I forget to mention it later, I love this look.”

“Thank you. Everleigh picked it for me.”

“Who on earth is Everleigh?”

He arched an eyebrow. “Am I sensing jealousy?”

“Uh, yes. Because this is the first I’m hearing of her.”

“Babe, Everleigh isjusta friend. She’s never had my interest. Milo, however…” Jackson shrugged. “They used to have a thing back in high school, but not anymore.”
