Chapter Three

NOAH

Noah was on high alert as he dashed through the vegetation that led to the mansion ahead.

The vampires had a head start and were infiltrating quietly. Too bad, Noah had ruined their plans by triggering the Hunter Academy’s defenses.

Paul Maximillian, the vampire he was pursuing, was the leader of those vampire assassins. Still, for Maximillian to launch an attack on the Hunter Academy that trained to kill their kind, he was even more of a fool than Noah had imagined.

Why’s Paul’s horde attacking a high-profile training facility?

He had no idea. Nevertheless, Noah was there to end Maximillian’s life, so Paul’s attack was providential to him.

It’s been decades since his parents and most of his family had been wiped out by that cruel vampire lord who loathed what he was and what his mother’s family had done by allying themselves with the werewolves. Destruction followed him everywhere. His only comfort was destroying the vicious vampire who took everything from him.

Paul Maximillian was a nasty creature and tracking him down hadn’t been easy. Entering werewolf territory wasn’t in his plans, but it was the only way to confront the bastard and kill him. Meanwhile, having the werewolves killing Paul’s minions was a perk he had taken into consideration by activating the silent alarms to alert the school of the vampires' incoming attack.

Finding Maximillian took longer than Noah had expected. The hunters were already aware of the assassins. He could hear them fight as Maximillian evaded his attacks. Noah knew he was trying to exhaust him.

A wolf howled, and Noah stopped to clean the blood dripping from the corner of his mouth.

“They know we’re here. You’re a fool,” Maximillian muttered as he caught his breath.

Noah offered him a lopsided smile. “And?”

“They will kill you before you can escape.” Maximillian chuckled. “I thought you were smarter than this.”

“I don’t care if I live or die after killing you,” he informed him, grinning wider.

The vampire’s face became sober. “I have no intention of dying before I finish my mission.”

Maximilian lunged, showing his menacing fangs.

Noah evaded the vampire’s attacks. His stake was long gone and lost between the vegetation as the dagger in Paul’s hand shone under the moonlight.

The vampire’s lips curled up, and his eyes aimed at the blood staining Noah’s shirt. “Do you really believe that you are a match for me, half-breed?”

Despite the burning pain, Noah mimicked the monster’s smile. “Your vampires are being killed by the hunters. Maybe you have underestimated their abilities.”

The night breeze ruffled his blond hair and brought a flowery scent that tickled his nostrils. For a few seconds, Noah’s mind blurred, and his heart fluttered.

A few seconds was all it took for Paul to lunge forward and slash Noah’s arm. Noah was fast enough to react and spun around to evade the deadly blade.

“This is the last time you interfere with my plans, Noah,” Paul spat as he ran towards him and slashed up and down.

Noah twirled around the blade, dodging every cut.

“How can you be so fast? I’m much older than you!” Paul protested, clearly frustrated.

“You have no idea what I can do,” Noah muttered from a crouching position.

From the corner of his eye, he saw another vampire coming in his direction. The creature growled at him, baring his teeth and showing his sharp claws. Three more followed behind. Noah missed his stake and scowled at himself for losing it while fighting with Paul. He didn’t normally like to half-shift, but his claws were now a necessity. He willed his fangs to appear as his hands morphed into deadly paws with elongated claws.

The hunter lowered his body to glide under the hovering creature and slashed the vampire open. Blood and guts fell from his enemy’s stomach, and the creature landed on the grass and burst into ashes. Jumping forward, Noah clasped hands with the next attacker and swirled the beast around, shoving away the other ones surrounding them. Then, he threw the vampire against his master, Paul Maximillian.

“It seems that I need to do everything around here,” Maximillian snarled as he grabbed his minion’s neck and snapped it. He finished by pulling his minion’s head off which made the body turned into ashes.

The other two vampires stopped in horror before attacking Noah with renewed hatred.
