Old Times Sake

HUDSON

I loosen the tie around my neck as I take a seat on the deck of Capri. It’s stinging hot out and the restaurant is fucking expensive for shit when the air-conditioning doesn’t even work.

But Diana loves Italian and Capri is one of the best in Manhattan, so it’s all I can do. We’re having a lunch date, Diana and I. It’s been a month since I’ve seen her because we always do this.

It’s always goodbye and then hello with Diana. I don’t know if there’ll ever come a day when I do have to break all ties for good. Some part of me would feel relieved and the other lost.

Even though I don’t love her, I feel compelled by her. She’s always been there. Besides the sex, Diana is like a friend. She sees me for who I am and doesn’t say anything. I don’t feel judged around her, so I rarely have to wear that pretentious mask that I give a fuck about what really matters and what doesn’t.

I glance at my watch. It’s already 2:37 p.m. and she’s late. She likes to keep me waiting, thinking I like the chase, so I amuse myself and allow her to believe that she holds so much importance in my life.

Unlike Parker who just thinks she can ignore me. It’s been a week and she hasn’t texted me yet. I swipe my phone screen open and go into Instagram. It’s one of the few places I can stalk her.

Parker’s page comes up with a new post. She’s in a black bikini, her skin golden and dripping wet and she’s looking a little meatier as she sits on the edge of a pool. It makes my blood flow and angry at the same time that she’s having fun and not bothered about me.

I might fling my phone at a wall, so I switch my phone off and leave it on the table harder than I intend.Fuck her. Fuck everyone.

The waiter comes around and I order a bottle of Masseto wine. Almost $800 for a bottle of wine. Hopefully, it’s good.

When the waiter leaves, I see Diana walking out onto the deck. Her icy blonde hair is cut to her shoulders, looking neat and sharp as ever. She’s wearing a tight, spaghetti-strap black dress with the curve of her perfect tits spilling out obviously to show me what I’m missing out on.

I scan her hands and sure enough, her ring is missing from her finger.Poor Michael.

“Hey, lover,” Diana says, seductively.

I stand up and subtly brush my palm against her waist, before kissing her on her cheek. “Hey, you.”

“I’ve never been here,” Diana says, as she takes a seat across from me. “Is it new?”

“I think so. I found it on Google,” I tell her. “It had good ratings and I know you love Italian.”

“You’re so sweet.” Diana reaches over and laces her fingers with mine. “How are you?”

“I’m fine.”

Her blue eyes study me. “Why did you want to meet? Why are you being so nice?”

“I just wanted to talk.”

“What do you want?” She narrows her eyes.

I run my thumb over her knuckles.

“So, a while back, Matt tells me there’s a woman calls him and says she has something on me. You know, like a blackmail sort of thing.”

Diana’s dark blonde brows knit together in confusion. “What does that have to do with me? It’s not my fault you piss everyone off at some point in your life, H.”

I stare at her and she stares right back until her gaze finally breaks away. “Do you actually think I’d do that to you, Hudson?”

“Okay, maybe I’m not such an important target but I told you a while back that I’m with someone new and someone broke into her apartment last week,” I say, watching her carefully.

I can see the look of disgust forming on Diana’s face as she pulls her hand away from mine. “Why the fuck would I do that? I don’t even know her.”

“I really don’t know, Diana. You were my first guess.”
