I Need To Speak To You

Istare at the pictures in my hands that came with the documents. There’s a pretty blonde in the pictures. Ryan probably took them, I’m not sure why, but it’s probably to prove that Hudson isn’t any better than him.

In most of the photos, the blonde is alone and in others, she’s with him. Kissing him, holding his hand and I see him looking at her the same way he looks at me: passionately, lustfully. It makes my stomach turn to think that he can be so close to another woman.

I had texted him and called him, but there was still no reply. Even if I do meet him, I don’t know what exactly to say.

“Oh hey! I got documents on your mental health…”

Or:

“Oh hey! I got pictures of you and a woman kissing. Who is she? Your other girlfriend?”

As I wallow in my thoughts, Lex emerges from her room looking like a character from the walking dead. Her purple hair is sticking up and there are dark circles around her eyes.

I gather the pictures and documents and shove them back into the folder as Lex walks into the living room.

“Don’t say it,” she mutters, plopping down next to me. “Okay say it.”

I smile and I ruffle her hair. “Are you sure you want to hear it?”

She nods and throws her head back. “I need to.”

“You look like shit,” I whisper, and she groans.

“Do I really?”

“Yep. I’m afraid so, Lex.” I wake up from the couch and head toward the kitchen. “But I know what you need.”

I open the fridge door and grab a Blue Lemonade flavored probiotic shot from Pressed Juicery.

Lex is hugging a cushion tightly to her chest when I go back into the living room.

“There you go.” I hand her the probiotic shot.

Lex wrinkles her nose. “Parker no. You know I don’t drink that stuff.”

“You have to. You’ll feel much better. You need to get all that alcohol out of your system and you need to hydrate with water and eat something. I need to go to the store, so I’ll make some of those Korean souffle pancakes for you,” I tell her.

She takes the probiotic from me, unscrews the lid, and takes a tentative sip. “It’s not that bad.” Her frown relaxes as she takes another sip.

“I’ll be right back, okay?” I kiss her forehead. “Go have a shower or something.”

Lex heads to the bathroom and I grab my bag before leaving the apartment building. The sky is dark and even though the storm has subsided, a lingering smell of deathly rain hangs in the air.

It’s only 8:47 p.m. and Food Co is still open, so I grab a shopping cart and dump in all the essentials like bread, a carton of milk, and some eggs along with a few bottles of iced coffee and those instant packs of popcorn you just leave in the microwave for a few minutes.

My headphones are on with U2’sHold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Meblasting into my ears as I head into the next aisle.

Just as I’m looking at tampons I notice someone from the corner of my eye. It’s a hooded figure. And the figure seems to be male from his physical structure.

I can see him moving closer, so I grab a box of tampons and move further down the aisle.

Now and then I turn back to see the man walking behind me, pushing his cart slowly, but I shrug it off.

He’s just another patron, a little weird, but there’s nothing more to it, right?
