Fuck With My Head

HUDSON

My morning class is over before I know it. It’s nothing that I don’t already know. I’ve been studying this shit for three years straight.

I leave Kensington early because I need to get more cocaine, so I take the subway to Lexington Avenue where I walk around for several minutes in no particular direction until I see Danny.

I don’t know him by any other name, but he deals for all of us, frat boys. He’s a weird-looking, lanky dude with serious emo vibes, not that I care. Each to their own.

Danny walks up to me. We stand side by side. He quickly hands me the coke in a packet, which I stuff into my jacket pocket and I hand him a thick wad of cash before we part ways.

I wish life was as simple as getting coke on the streets. But that wouldn’t be any fun.

My phone buzzes as I walk across the street to a hotdog food truck. While the girl prepares mine with chili, I take my phone out of my pants pocket and see Dr. Vivienne’s name pop up on the screen notifying me that today is another scheduled appointment and I can’t afford to miss anymore.

I couldn’t go anymore. Sure, getting head from a willing participant was nice of her, but she knew her career would be jeopardized if she pushed me any further. Besides, I don’t have time for any more “extracurricular” activities.

And I can’t always have Parker jumping down my throat every time she suspects something. So no more shit for me until I find out how she got those pictures and who the hell is trying to harm me.

I pay for my hot dog and take a huge bite before making my way down into the subway.

It’s busy, so it’s not my favorite place to be in, especially not when I have to look over my shoulder every five seconds. God help the cunt that’s trying desperately to fuck with my head.

I discard the brown wrapper in a recycling container once I’m done with my hotdog and take the next train towards Billionaires Row where I’m meeting with Matt and my father to check out a new building for a future Saylor Towers Hotel.

When I reach Billionaires Row, I leave the subway and walk the rest of the way towards the row of towering, cast-iron skyscrapers. I remember this place like it was just yesterday. Not only because I frequent it with Matt for business, but because of Jack. I remember crushing his bones with the sledgehammer.

The sun beats down on the back of my neck mercilessly as I trek along the pavement.Fuck, it’s hot.

I pull off my jacket as I check the location Matt sent me half an hour ago.

Longview Hotel.

Narrowing my eyes, I look up at the hotel in front of me and gratefully see Longview Hotel lettered in just against the side of the building. A silver, glass tower of simplicity.

“Hudson.”

I glance towards the revolving doors to see Matt walking towards me in his crisp suit, his eyes shaded by sunglasses.

“Hi,” I say. “Is this the place?”

“Yeah, we’re getting it at a good price if we do accept it as it is,” Matt explains.

“How much?”

“There’s going to be renovations per floor and the figure has come to about 20 million a floor,” he says.

“So, it’s going to be around one billion, three hundred and eighty million.”

“That’s a lot,” I tell Matt. “Is it worth it?”

He nods. “Definitely is. The owner is an old Turkish man. He’s really cool. Don’t tell dad, but I want to work on this one with you.”

“You know it’s not really my place. I’m just here because I’m only a shareholder,” I say. “And I don’t want more of a reason to see dad often.”

Matt runs a hand through his hair, before taking off his sunglasses. “You won’t see dad. I mean, this gig will just be on you and me. Come on, don’t you want to be part of this company? I just want to help you out here bro.”
