I stilled. Even my heart skipped a beat.

“Okay?” I repeated.

She nodded.

“Okay. Let’s get married. My life has been crazy since I met you. Why change it now?”

I leaned in, grabbed her gently but firmly by her nape, and kissed her hard. My tongue stroked along hers, barely slaking my need to possess this woman. I wanted to take up all the space in her head forever more.

“But you should know, Rafaelle Luciano, I’m not marrying you because you tricked me, and it worked, or because you’re asking me when I’m flushed with adrenaline and gratitude,” she murmured, pressing sweet, chaste kisses along my jaw toward my ear. “I’m marrying you in spite of it… so don’t you dare do it again.” She licked along the shell of my ear and bit down lightly on my lobe.

“Or?” I teased. I felt like I could jump off a building and fly right now. Nothing had ever felt better than the elation in my chest at knowing that Elena loved me back, as I loved her. She wanted to be mine. I was the last man standing on a battlefield, victor over all others.

“Or else… there’ll be hell to pay,” she muttered, leaning back and smiling up at me.

“I’m looking forward to it, angel. Every single moment.”
