Chapter 10

TAYLOR

“Wow.So that’s what it looks like. I had almost forgotten.”

I look up from my phone and eye my sister, Harley. “What what looks like?”

She takes a sip from her straw then licks her lips once she’s done. “Your smile.”

I snort. “You see it every day reflected back at you when you look in the mirror.”

“Nah. Mine has always been much better than yours.”

“Whatever,” I grumble and go back to my phone and the message Asa just sent.

He’s been busy with photo ops and other business stuff all day, so this is the first time we’ve gotten to speak today. I should be trying to have fun with my sisters since Penelope forced me to go out, but there’s no way I’m giving up my Asa time.

Asa: Have fun at Whiskey’s. Just not too much without me.

I hit the reply button.

Me: Is it pathetic to say I haven’t had much fun since you left?

It’s been three months since Asa left Silver Falls, and not a day has gone by that we haven’t texted, spoken, or video chatted each other on the phone. It’s certainly not the same as having him here, but since that’s not possible, this is the next best thing.

When he left, we agreed to keep in touch with each other, but I honestly thought he would lose interest after a week or two. So far, he hasn’t, and that leaves a strong, giddy feeling in my stomach. Thankfully, his father is doing well and hasn’t had any relapses with his heart.

I look down at my phone when it vibrates.

Asa: No. But only because I haven’t had much fun either. I fucking miss you.

My lips stretch into a big, goofy grin. Asa Sharpe. Famous rock star and the hottest guy on earth misses me.

Me: I miss you too. When will you be back at your hotel?

The band has a rare break from touring for the next few days, so they’re staying in a hotel in Phoenix instead of on the bus. I haven’t heard his voice or seen his face since this morning, and I’m dying to do both.

Asa: Not for another thirty minutes or so.

Our conversation is interrupted when Penelope takes a seat beside me and pushes a long island iced tea in my direction. “Drink up.”

I grab the glass, eyeing it like I expect it to bite me. I’m not really in the mood to drink. Hell, I haven’t been in the mood to do much lately, except mope around in my house. Which is why all three of my sisters showed up tonight to drag me to Whiskey’s. Camila and Harley I understand, but Penelope isn’t a partier. It’s rare she ventures out to Whiskey’s, which goes to show how much they’ve been worried about my depressed mood lately.

“It’s not mop water, Taylor. Drink the damn drink.”

I shoot Penelope a glare as I grudgingly bring the glass to my lips.

“Where’s ours?” Camila asks, gesturing to herself and Harley.

“You can get your own,” Penelope answers.

“Bitch,” Camila mutters as she chews on a chocolate straw.

“Hag,” Penelope throws back without missing a beat.

“Cunt,” Harley volleys.

Camila snickers as Penelope shoots Harley a disgusted glare. Penelope despises the C word, which is why Harley used it in the first place. The four of us may love each other, but we love pushing each others’ buttons.

I watch the three of them with hardly any interest as I steadily drink my spiked tea. Maybe if I get drunk enough, my heart will stop feeling like it’s cracking down the center.

Their bickering is interrupted when the door opens and an older couple walks in. Everyone in the place turns their head to see who it is, because that’s just the thing to do. In walks Judge Masters and his wife, Addison. You’d think with a judge showing up, people would become leery and stiff, but Brady Masters has always been pretty cool. For a judge, at least. His wife, however, is an old, stuck-up bitch. What the hot silver fox sees in the woman is beyond me.

They stop just inside the door and Brady looks around the joint, no doubt looking for an empty table. My eyebrows raise when they land on our table and linger. More specifically on Camila, who is currently looking anywhere but in the direction of the door.

What in the hell is up with that?

My phone pings, and I forget all about the disaster waiting to happen.

Asa: Why aren’t you dancing?

My brows pull down. How in the hell does he know I’m not dancing?

I look up from my phone to Penelope. As far as I know, she’s the only person here who has his cell number. She’s currently immersed in a quiet conversation with Camila, so it can’t be her who told him.

I look around the room, a prickling feeling forming on the back of my neck.
