"Whoo!"

Fabien steps out of the lake, the dark waters parting to let him pass like a curtain. He doesn't bother walking like a man, he just flows up out of the water and flows across the lawn. Below the waist, he's just tentacles. No legs at all. There are so many that slide and slither and find balance and Fabien's body never wavers.

It looks a bit like he's flying across the ground.

His skin is green, and his chest is broad and mottled with darker green patches that catch my eye with their emerald beauty. It's only after looking at him in the moonlight as he approaches that I realize they must be scars.

Fabien has really taken a beating in his life. But every scar is healed and he shows no sign of injury. I wonder if he's in pain, if he has aches when the weather changes or anything like that.

Somehow I doubt it. Just seeing how he moves, how his tentacles writhe with thick muscles just like the rest of him...it makes me think he's never sore or hurt for long.

Something about him just screamsstrong.

He falls in line beside me.

"Are you trying to memorize my freckles or something?" he asks, smiling slyly.

"How did you... I mean, no, of course not. You don't have freckles."

His gaze combs over my naked body, and I feel myself flush again with embarrassment. The way he looks at me isn't like the others at all. They were curious. Fabien looks at me like he's hungry.

And like he knows exactly what he wants.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer."

"Hmm?"

"It's a saying. It means you're staring."

Fabien shakes his head, grinning.

"I'm just looking over what will, very soon, be mine."

Something flares inside me, willing me to tell him to stuff it. But instead, my curiosity takes over and I find myself searching his lower body for genitals. I don't haveanyidea what kind of dick Fabien is packing. Whatever it is, it's bound to be large -- I mean, the guy is massive, so it just makes sense. But where is it? What does it look like?

There are so many tentacles it's hard to make out what's going on down there.

“Looking for something?” he asks, his voice a deep purr.

I look away immediately. I shouldn’tbelooking in the first place. I’m an officer of the law, a professional. This monster might be eight feet tall and have lots of swagger, but I have a job to do.

The portal, when we pass through, washes over me like I’m being drenched in cold water. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Fabien pass through with only a deep breath. The phasing from the human world to Faerie takes my breath away, and I stumble.

Fabien is at my elbow in an instant, steadying me. His long tentacles wrap around me and easily lift me. It’s so fluid, it doesn’t feel like being caught, it feels like floating.

“It takes some getting used to,” he says, quietly.

“Thank you. Listen, I—”

“Forget it,” he says.

At my quizzical look, Fabien grins.

“Your phone? Carter told me he found it in the foyer. I’m glad it’s been returned to you. Though I do wonder why you’d thinkIstole it, rather than you’d left it somewhere.”

My face flushes warm, but I ignore it this time.

“I didn’tleaveit anywhere. It must’ve fallen or…”
