“Well, I guess I’ll get back to the party.”

“Do that,” Fabien growls.

Octavian glares one last time. Being ordered to leave doesn’t seem to suit him one bit.

Once he’s gone, I feel like I could faint. A girl can only handle so much, andgood lord,I have a wedding in a few hours.

“I need to sit down.”

Fabien opens his mouth to speak, but I don’t wait to hear him.

Without another word, I escape down the hall and rush back to my room. Olivia is waiting, but so are four other women -- all of them monsters.

The eldest I recognize as Gabrielle, Fabian's aunt and the elder of the female side of the family. The part I'll soon be joining. Her long snake’s tail coils around the floor at my feet.

I’mreallycareful not to step on it.

"You're finally back," she says, dismissively. "Good. We can begin. The ceremony begins at sunset, so there isn't much time to prepare you. I can give you something to ease the evening for you."

This last part she says slowly. I know by her tone she means some sort of aphrodisiac. Something that’ll warm me up for a night of being ravaged by my husband.

Several of the ladies around her blush, and I know it's because of Fabien's reputation. I vividly recall the woman at the mountain god’s blessing telling me Fabien ruined her and her sister for all other men. She also said he had the appetites of ten men and left both of them limping the next day.

Something tells me that being turned on won't be a problem. Maybe I should ask if one of her potions is the equivalent of a cold shower. Maybe one for meandone for Fabien.

“If you don’t wish it,” Gabrielle says gently, “then our portal awaits. Prepare yourself to travel to our demesnes.”
