CHAPTER FOURTEEN

FABIEN

Her side of the bed is empty when I wake. It's not surprising since I came home late last night.

I thought of waking her, of having her again, but she was sleeping so soundly. It was everything I could do not to touch her and sneak into her dreams. But I was dead tired and that pillow felt awfully good.

Still, I figured she'd be around in the morning. I wake up rock hard and her side of the bed isn't just empty, it's cold to the touch. What kind of mafia princess wakes up that early? For that matter, what kind is in bed before midnight?

When I hacked her phone, it was full of all the party girl selfies you'd expect. Late nights, hot clubs, plenty of shots. The women around her changed a lot, like her friends group had a rotating door.

Maybe marriage got her to settle down.

I snort and laugh at the ridiculousness of that idea. My little bird is nothing like settled. She's a fighter.

I get out of bed and check the bathroom, the spare bedroom and even glance out in the hall, but she's nowhere to be found. I throw on a pair of joggers and head out of the room to track her down. It doesn't take me long to find her.

Even in sweats and a t-shirt, she looks damn good. Those sweats hug her ass when she walks. She's barefoot, and her hair is up in a ponytail. It's hard for me not to imagine taking hold of that ponytail and pulling her down to her knees with it.

As the rising sun paints all the halls golden, I marvel at her beauty. I give her plenty of shit, but damn she's gorgeous. Her big blue eyes roam the halls like she's taking in every detail.

I think about sneaking behind her and pouncing on her. Dragging her back to my room to have my way with her again.

I only got two days worth of honeymoon.I'm still starving for it. Something about the heat of her body wrapped around my cock drives me crazy.

Just watching her now makes me hard.

But something bugs me.

Where's she going anyways? The gym, pool, tennis courts and the rest of the rec stuff is on the first floor. So are the kitchens. The study is down the west hallway. These rooms are mainly offices. Administrative.

I wonder what she's up to?

Curiosity slows me down. I hug the shadows and don't let her know I'm there. She glances back over her shoulder a time or two, but I've hunted monsters my whole life, even before I was made in my father's mafia. Becoming made was just a shift to smarter monsters.

So following her is no big deal.

She takes plenty of precautions. Whoever taught her in Zedona's family taught her well. She'd be tough for most folks to follow.

She stops at one of the heavy oak doors. She pulls her blond hair behind her ear and leans to the door to listen.

Then slowly, silently, she opens it and creeps in.

No doubt about it, my little bird is keeping secrets. There's no way out of that room, either. Once I get to the door, she'll be cornered and there'll be nowhere for her to go.

Then I'll have some questions for her. One way or another, I'll get the truth out of her.

I catch her behind the desk, sitting in the leather accountant's chair, going through the drawers.

"Looking for something?"

Mia sits bolt upright and stares at me, wide eyed. Then her eyes close and she puts a hand to her chest. Her breaths come ragged for a moment as she calms herself.

"Is there something I don't know?" she asks, glaring at me.

What the fuck haveIdone?

"Something you don't know about what?"
