And I loved every minute of it.
I’m still reeling when a light dances in the office outside, and footsteps come. “Hello?” a voice calls.
I don’t have time to panic. In an instant, Caleb is at my side. “Who’s there?” he barks, shielding me from the door with his body as he efficiently fastens my dress again.
The door opens, and a security guard looks in. “Oh, Mr. Sterling, I’m sorry. I didn’t know anyone was here.”
“That’s quite alright, Jimmy,” Caleb replies smoothly. “Just another late night. Thanks for checking.”
“Goodnight,” Jimmy tells us both, about to leave, but Caleb stops him.
“Actually, you can walk Juliet down to the lobby. My driver is waiting to take her home. See that she reaches him safely.”
“Of course.”
I blink in surprise. He’s sending me home? “That’s it?” I blurt.
Caleb’s lips quirk in amusement. “I think we’ve done enough work for the night. Get some sleep. I’m sure there’ll be plenty more on your desk tomorrow.”
He gives me a nod, like he’s dismissing me.
Like five minutes ago, he wasn’t on his knees, devouring me whole.
“Fine.” I reply, gathering my wits. If he wants to act like I’m suddenly disposable, then I’m not about to hang around and be humiliated. “I should get some rest, anyway. All this paperwork was so boring, I nearly fell asleep.”
Caleb’s jaw drops. Ha! I manage a smile of victory as I walk out the door. I even manage to make it all the way to the elevators feeling like I got the last word.
Then I realize: I’m not wearing my panties.
