That I don’t matter to him.

What has Olivia told me all along? That he would tire of me. That nobody lasts long with him.

I feel another flare of fear, just as sharp as I felt trapped in the building earlier, but for a whole different reason.

I walk over to the living room. “Caleb,” I try again. This time, I see the annoyance on his face.

“I told you, I’m busy.” He doesn’t get up.

“Caleb, please.”

How many times have I said that before—in pleasure, moaning his name? I always loved how he controlled me, dominated me, made me beg for more. But now?

Now it feels all wrong.

Caleb shoves back his chair and stalks over to me. “I don’t have time for this,” he says dropping his voice. “I have enough on my plate.”

“It’s important,” I insist.

“Is it?” Caleb snaps back. “Because from where I’m standing, the most important thing is not letting this company get broken down and stripped for parts. Protecting the people who work for me. Not letting Olivia do any more fucking damage, after you—”

He stops.

“After I what?” I demand, feeling a chill spread through my body.

Caleb shakes his head.

“No, say it!” I insist.

Caleb glares. “After you gave her what she needed to set this whole thing in motion!”

There’s silence, his words echoing through the penthouse. And I realize in horror that it’s not Caleb losing interest that’s the problem, or even the risk of whoever’s been sending me those notes. No, the biggest threat to my happiness is staring right at me with bitter fury in his eyes.

Because he still blames me for everything.

And there is nothing I can do to change it.

I swallow, my heart breaking in my chest. “You’ll never forgive me, will you?”
