Arlo lets out a moan. "Thank you for tonight, Daddy." He stares at his ring. "You made me the happiest boy in New York City."

Fireworks.

That's what I forgot to tell Arlo.

I clear my throat. "Attention, everyone." My voice echoes throughout the room. "Grab a brownie and follow me outside. There's a special surprise tonight."

Arlo stares at me quizzically. He places his palm on my chest and cocks an eyebrow. "What sort of special surprise, Daddy?"

Ha. This angel has no idea what I have in store.

"Follow me, boy." I secure my grip on Arlo's hand.

We rush outside with the rest of the guests in the homeless shelter. We crowd on the sidewalk, in time to see the first firework explode.

Boom.

The firework soars through the air and bursts in the shape of a spaceship. It breaks off into glistening particles as another firework soars upward, and this time, a giant green alien fills the night sky, before exploding in the heavens.

"Oh my God," someone shouts, bouncing up and down. "This is amazing!"

A girl presses her hands to her cheeks. "Look, Mommy. Aliens."

Arlo can't believe his eyes as he turns to me. His jaw drops, and his breath hitches as he touches my chest.

"Daddy." Arlo's voice is choked as he stares into my eyes. "You put on a fireworks display for me?"

I let out a growl as I dip down to steal a kiss. "I sure did, boy. And you'd better get used to fireworks from now on." I bark out a laugh. "You'll see many of them over the Hudson in Chelsea when you marry me."

If I don't put on private fireworks displays at least four times a month for Arlo, I've failed as his Daddy.

This is too much for Arlo to take. He moans as he gently presses his forehead against my chest. "You're the best Daddy ever." He sniffles as he hugs me softly. "No other Daddy on this planet compares to you."

As the fireworks explode, I can't help but think that I'm the fortunate one. Not one man on this planet, not a single fucking person in America, Italy, Australia, China, or anywhere else in this goddamn world, is as lucky as me. I met the boy of my dreams who'll be with me for the rest of my life, and he wants to marry me.

I could fucking leap into the air like a firework.

I run my thumb across Arlo's cheek. "I love you, angel. I can't wait to be your husband."

Arlo kisses me. "Let's head inside. Your boy, a.k.a. your future husband, craves another brownie."
