Trent

Trent age twenty

Ally age seventeen

Ipull to a stop in front of Andrew and Jase’s place and shut off my truck. I take a moment to compose myself before I get out. The next couple of hours are going to both suck and be one of the best memories of my life.

Sucking in a deep breath, I get out of my truck and go up the steps. I knock on the door, then shove my hands into my slack pockets as I wait. Looking down at my clothes, I shake my head. I feel like a fool wearing this get up, but Ally begged me to wear the tux, so here I am.

I hold my place when the door is thrust open, and I’m blasted with the heated scowl from the man in front of me. Any normal man would be intimidated by Andrew because he’s so fucking big. He’d have no problem crushing me with his hands.

He won’t though because it’ll hurt Ally, and he’d never do anything to harm her. I also like to think I’ve earned his respect, because I don’t cower in front of him like most men do.

It’s silly because I’ve known him all my life, but I hold my hand out to him anyway. “Andrew.”

He looks down at it for a moment before he reluctantly shakes it in a bone-crushing grip. His smile is anything but happy when he flashes his teeth. “You’ll be keeping your hands to yourself tonight,” he states.

“I’m only going with her as friends, so you have nothing to worry about,” I tell him the same thing I told him weeks before when he found out Ally asked me to take her to prom. Luckily, my twenty-first birthday is next week, so I barely made the age cut off for guests.

He grunts, his eyes conveying his disbelief. If he only knew where my thoughts go any time I’m near Ally, he wouldn’t let me within fifty feet of her.

“Cut it out, Andrew,” Jase says, appearing in the doorway beside Andrew. “Let the boy inside.”

Andrew’s lips tighten, but he steps back, allowing me to enter the house.

“Ally will be down in a minute,” Jase informs me.

It wasn’t until the last couple of years I’ve felt weird coming inside Andrew and Jase’s place. Up until then, I was always welcome. The last two years though, Andrew’s been eyeing me with trepidation, as if he knows my feelings toward Ally have moved from being best friends to something more. Because of the age difference, I can’t blame him. I’d be shitting bricks and have a loaded gun pointed straight at my chest if I were in his shoes.

Of course, he doesn’t know for certain my feelings have changed. I’ve worked damn hard at hiding them, but he’s not stupid, so I’m sure Andrew knows. What he doesn’t realize is that I would never do anything with Ally. She’s too young.

Andrew keeps his eyes on me as I stand awkwardly in the living room. Thankfully, Ally comes out a minute later. I almost lose my composure and give away my feelings when I first see her. She’s the most beautiful vision I’ve ever set my eyes on.

She’s wearing a silver, shimmery dress that hugs her chest, with no sleeves or strings over her shoulders. The dress flows freely from below her breasts down to the floor. Little beads of gold cover the top. Her hair, which I’ve always loved, is swept up off her shoulders in loose curls. Around her neck is the silver necklace I got her last year for Christmas. Little silver earrings hang from her ears.

She takes my breath away and does major havoc to my body.

“You look beautiful, Ally,” Jase says proudly.

I clear my throat, and my eyes dart over to Andrew, who’s still watching me like a hawk. When he moves his gaze to Ally, the irritation leaves his face, and he smiles gently at her.

“Absolutely stunning, baby girl.”

She walks to him and gets to her toes to kiss his cheek. “Thanks.”

“You know, Andrew or I could still take you.”

She laughs and pats his chest lovingly. “That’s cute and very sweet, but there’s no way I’m going to my junior prom with my dad.”

“I don’t see why you can’t. All of your friends love me.”

“I think they love you too much.” She snickers. “Besides, Trent agreed to go with me.” She looks at me and smiles. “It would be rude to back out.”

“I think it would be fine,” he grunts quietly.

Ally shakes her head. “Stop it. You know Trent and I are just friends.
