Me: Yeah. Got the all clear from the doctor today.

Andrew: Good. Bailey’s planning a barbecue for Saturday. I’ll tell her it’s a go.

Me: Sounds good.

I drop my phone back on the coffee table.

“Daddy, will you play tea party with me?” Destiny asks, walking up to Dillon with a tiny teacup.

I grin and a snicker slips past my lips before I can stop it. Dillon shoots me a glare. My smile dies when Destiny looks over at me. “You can play too, T.”

Destiny’s taken to calling me T ever since Andrew and Jase left. I have to admit, it’s really freaking cute every time I hear it.

It’s Dillon’s turn to grin. “He would love to play with us, honey. Wouldn’t you, T?”

I plaster a smile on my face. “I sure would.”

When Destiny turns away with an excited shout, I flip Dillon the bird. He chuckles. We both scoot our asses off the couch and sit in front of the coffee table while Destiny puts saucers and cups in front of us. She adds a second plate beside them.

“What’s that plate for?” Dillon asks.

“Duh, it’s for cookies,” Destiny answers, like it was the most ridiculous question she’s ever been asked.

“Does Momma know you’re eating sweets before dinner?”

“It was Momma’s idea.”

We both turn to look toward the kitchen. Ashlyn’s on the other side of the bar, a sneaky smile tipping up her lips. Dillon grunts as he faces forward again.

“One cookie, and that’s it.” He pointedly looks at Destiny.

“Okay,” she chirps happily.

Carefully, Destiny picks up the small glass teapot and pours some into our tiny cups. They’re so small, I’m not sure I can pick it up by the handle with my big hands.

“How many sugars do you want, Daddy?”

“One, please.”

She drops a cube of sugar in his cup before turning to me.

“How many for you, T?”

“None for me. I like my tea unsweetened.” The crestfallen look on her face has me changing my answer. “Actually, I’ll take two sugars. I think my blood sugar may be low.”

The smile is back in place, and it’s one-upped when she laughs. “That’s silly. You don’t have sugar in your blood. You have blood in your blood.”

Dillon chuckles. “He doesn’t mean real sugar. He’s talking about glucose.”

“What’s glucose?”

“It’s something in our body that gives us energy. If a person doesn’t have enough glucose, we get sick.”

“Like Ally?” she asks, looking at me.

“Sort of, but not quite,” I answer. “What Ally has is called Leukemia. It does have to do with her blood, just not the glucose in it. With leukemia, there are other bad things in her blood.”

Destiny nibbles on her cookie as she listens. “And the doctors are giving her medicine to make it stop?”
