Trent starts walking, and it’s not in the direction of the car. I look around. “Where are we going?”

Instead of answering me, he turns at the corner of the office building and leads me down an ally. We go about ten feet before I’m pressed back against the brick building.

“The car’s too far away,” he mutters, leaning into me. “I don’t think people would appreciate me mauling you out on the street.”

My giggle is cut short when his lips latch onto mine. The kiss is deep and filled with desire. I moan into his mouth and tighten my legs around his waist. His hard cock presses into me, and I curse the clothes between us.

“Jesus, baby,” Trent mumbles against my lips, flexing his hips so his cock presses in just the right place. “I need inside you.”

I stopped bleeding five days ago, but neither of us have initiated sex since I had the miscarriage. Trent’s waiting on me. While I appreciate his thoughtfulness, I miss the intimacy.

“Then take me,” I say breathlessly. I slip my fingers under the neck of his shirt and score my nails down his back.

“I’m not fucking you in an alley.” I pout and he grins. “I just couldn’t wait to kiss you the way I wanted.”

“You’re a tease,” I complain.

He buries his face in my cleavage before he looks up at me with jumping brows. “I’ll make it up to you later.”

I lift my head to find him wiggling his eyebrows. “You better,” I grumble.

Chuckling, he drops another kiss on my lips before letting my legs go. “Let’s get you home. I’m sure Ashlyn and Dillon are anxious to hear the good news.” His eyes smolder. “And I do believe we both could use a nap.”

* * *

The minutewe walk in the door, Ashlyn has me by the hand and is dragging me into the living room. I can’t help but laugh at the expectant look on her face. She’s been almost as anxious as us to find out my test results today.

“Well?” she demands. “What did the doctor say?”

“I’m good.” My smile takes up my whole face. “No traces of leukemia.”

She squeals, and before I know it, Ashlyn has her arms around me in a tight hug.

“This is such great news!” she says excitedly in my ear. “I knew it was going to go okay.”

I laugh and detach our bodies to take a step back. “You had more confidence than I did. I know what the doctor’s been telling us, but I couldn’t help but worry anyway.”

“Well, now you don’t have to. I can’t imagine the relief you must feel.”

I look over at Trent, who’s taking a beer that Dillon hands him. He’s watching Ashlyn and me with an indulgent smile. The stress lines that have been beside his eyes since he showed up unannounced all those weeks ago are no longer there. He’s kept his worry to himself about the news we would get today, but I’ve seen it on his face.

Trent has been a godsend, and I wouldn’t have made it through this unscathed without him. When I started this journey, I thought I could, but it didn’t take long for me to realize how wrong I was.

I return his smile with one of my own before I look back at Ashlyn.

“Relief is putting it mildly,” I tell her. “I’ve been through this twice before, but it doesn’t get easier. Hopefully this time it will stick.”

Ashlyn squeezes my hands. “I believe it will.”

I smile and send up a silent prayer she’s right.

She lets my hands go and slides her phone from her back pocket. “This calls for a celebration!” Her eyes flash. “I’m calling everyone and we’re going out to dinner.”

“The whole family?” Dillon asks.

“Absolutely! Everyone’s been worried about Ally. They deserve to celebrate the good news too.” She looks up from her phone, her brows dipping. “If that’s okay with you? Are you feeling good enough to go out?”

A night in to relax and just… be, sounds heavenly, but Ashlyn and her family have been very supportive so I can’t say no.

“Do you mind?” I ask Trent.

“It’s up to you.”

I turn back to a beaming Ashlyn. “Set it up.”

“Woot!” She fist bumps the air before she starts rapidly typing on her phone.

As much as I would love to spend a quiet evening at home, I can’t help but feel excitement at spending time with Ashlyn’s family again. They’ve been incredibly nice and have even helped with the adoption process for Erica. Trent and I haven’t had the opportunity to spend much time with them, so this is the perfect excuse to do so now.
