Trent

Trent age twenty-five

Ally age twenty-one

Standing with my back straight and my hands clasped in front of me, my face breaks out into a big grin and damned if my heart doesn’t stutter when I see the beautiful woman walking toward me.

Her dress is a gorgeous white silk that leaves her shoulders bare, hugs her chest like a glove, then flows loosely from just below her breasts all the way down to the ground. Her feet are bare beneath the dress. I know because my silly girl wanted it that way. She walks toward me on a bed of white rose petals. As we were planning the wedding, she said she wanted to feel the softness of the petals on her feet.

It’s her face though that has me captivated. Her smile is just as big as mine and her eyes shine with happiness and love. She has her arm laced with Andrew’s as he walks my soon to be bride toward me. It took a while, but Andrew finally came around and realized he could grumble all he wanted, but there was nothing he could do to stop Ally and I from being together. He knows, even if he’ll only admit it reluctantly, that Ally and I were meant to be together. We complete each other in every way possible.

When Ally and Andrew stop in front of me, my hands itch to take her into my arms, but I stay patient.

“Who gives this woman to this man today?” Pastor Fallows asks.

Andrew, pushing his shoulders back, states proudly, “I do.”

Ally turns to Andrew and rises to her toes to lay a kiss against his cheek. If I weren’t on the verge of tears myself, I’d rib Andrew for the glassy sheen I see in his eyes as he and Ally step forward.

“It took me a long time to see it,” he starts with a gruff voice. “But I have no doubt I’m giving my daughter to you with unwavering confidence you will always love and cherish her.” He gently takes her hand from his arm and holds it out to me.

“Thank you,” I say huskily.

Ally and I turn and face each other. I feel like I’ve waited a lifetime to be in this moment. To be standing here, ready to make this stunning woman my wife.

“You take my breath away,” I whisper.

Her smile trembles. “Are you ready?” she asks quietly.

“I’ve been ready my whole life.”

Pastor Fallows begins the ceremony. I know I should be paying attention to what he’s saying, but all I can focus on, all I can see and feel, is the beautiful woman in front of me. She’s always stolen all of my attention. From the first moment I laid eyes on her in Brent and Becky’s house all those years ago, Ally has been my whole world.

When it comes time to recite our vows, I manage to remember what Pastor Fallows says and repeat them. Ally does the same after me, and I can’t keep the smile off my face. We slide rings on each other’s finger, cementing the unbreakable bond we’ll share for the rest of our lives.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife. Trent, you may now kiss—”

I don’t wait for him to finish. I wrap my arm tightly around Ally’s waist, pull her toward me, and lower my lips to hers. We’ve kissed thousands of times before, but this one is different. This is our first kiss as husband and wife.

Ally opens her lips, and our tongues slash together in a kiss too heated for the crowd behind us. But neither of us cares. The world outside our bubble doesn’t exist right now. It’s just the two of us.

I lift my head far enough away to whisper against her lips, “I love you, Mrs. Weston.”

Ally’s eyes are soft as she gazes at me. “Mrs. Weston,” she sighs the name. “You’d think it would be weird to hear, but it’s not. I’ve been calling myself that in my head since I was thirteen years old.”

I chuckle. “Have you now?”

“Oh yes.” She grins. “And I’ve got old school notebooks to prove it.”

With a laugh, I bend Ally over my arm and take her lips in another scorching kiss.

Unfortunately, the world around us invades our moment when the crowd begins clapping and whistling.

“Alright, you two, you’ve had your moment. Now let me greet my new daughter-in-law.”

I peck Ally’s lips one more time before I let her go so Mia can get her arms around Ally. Dad stands just beyond her, a proud grin on his face.
