“I will,” Ashlyn answers. She looks over at Jase. “How are you feeling?”

“A little tender, but nothing I can’t handle.”

Looking at Jase and seeing the pallor of his skin, I know he’s hurting more than he’s letting on. As if sensing my thoughts, Andrew walks over and grabs the handles on the back of his chair.

“I’m going to get him back to his room.”

Jase turns his head and looks up at Andrew. “I’m fine.”

Andrew grabs Jase’s low ponytail and tips his head back a little more, leaning down to press a quick kiss against his lips. “I know you are, but I’m sure the nurse will be here any minute to take you back to your room anyway. I’m just saving her the trouble.” Andrew lowers his voice so Erica can’t hear him. “And I’ve been looking forward to giving you a sponge bath.”

Jase grunts and faces forward again. Despite the disgruntled look on his face, he can’t hide the hint of lust he’s feeling with Andrew’s words.

I walk over, and bend down to kiss his cheek, whispering, “Thank you again.”

“Stop thanking me. You’d know I’d do anything for you.”

I really am one of the luckiest women alive.

After Andrew wheels Jase from the room with a promise to stop by before they leave in the morning, I go back to Erica’s bed and retake my seat.

“I’m guessing Ally will be staying here tonight,” Ashlyn says. “Will you be staying too, Trent?”

“As much as I would love to, I don’t think the bed will be big enough for the both of us. I’ll head home and come back in the morning.”

Dillon speaks up. “Is there anything any of you need us to pick up tonight?”

“I think we’re good for now, but thank you,” I answer.

Ashlyn and Dillon visit for a while before they decide to take off, needing to pick Destiny up from Ashlyn’s parents.

“Call me if you need anything. I can be back up here in no time,” Trent says when it’s his turn to leave.

I wrap my arms around his waist. “We’ll both be fine. But I’ll call if that changes.” I roll to my toes for a kiss. “Don’t sleep too comfortably without me,” I say jokingly.

“I never sleep good when you aren’t with me.”

After another brief kiss, he leaves. I’m just taking a seat on the chair beside the bed when a nurse comes in to check on Erica and give her her nightly meds.

“How are you feeling, sweetie?” the nurse asks.

“I’m okay.” Erica yawns. “Really tired.”

“That’s to be expected.”

While the nurse talks to Erica for a few minutes, I pull the cushion off the chair that turns into a bed. I toss the pillow and blanket they gave me earlier onto the bed. Once the nurse leaves, I go back to Erica. The blankets are tucked up to her chin. She’s so tired she can barely keep her eyes open.

“Get some sleep, okay?” I lean over and kiss her forehead. “Call out if you need anything.”

She nods tiredly. “Thank you.”

I smile and turn to go to my makeshift bed when Erica calls my name. I turn back to her.

“I can’t wait to come live with you and Trent.”

My chest fills with warmth at her words. “We can’t wait either.” Lifting her hand with the IV, I kiss the back of it. “Trent and I already love you so much.”

She smiles, and it’s one of the sweetest smiles I’ve seen on her face. “I love you both too.”

Leaving her to sleep, I walk to my bed, knowing deep in my soul that as tragically sad as Erica’s life has been so far, both of our lives were leading us to this moment.
