Chapter Six

____________

Peirce

I stay in the car while Willa meets with her sister. I try to give her all the space I can so her sisters don't think I'm trying to control her or wedge my way in between them and her. I realize how important her family is to her. I lost my mom and dad when they went on a day trip to the Bahamas. A storm blew up and their boat capsized. I didn't think I was going to make it through that time but my grandparents dragged me through it. Still, I blamed mom for a long time for going with dad. I wanted her to stay with me that day. I understand now that I found Willa.

My grandma died a few years ago and my grandfather followed her shortly after. I was all alone before I met Willa and I didn't even realize it. I was so caught up in work and trying to outrun the grief of losing my parents and grandparents that I didn't realize how lonely I was. Then I saw my angel and she saved me. I'm not running anymore.

She gets close to the car and I can't help but reach out and pull her into the car. We don't have too much longer before we have to be at the church for the rehearsal. I want to get there a little earlier than everyone else so I can lay the groundwork for something later on. I also take the time my angel practices her walk down the aisle to call the doctor and work out when she can come and check up on my Willa.

Finally, she's back in my arms again. "Did you enjoy the rehearsal?"

She looks at me with a mixture of caution and humor. "Yes...why?"

"I just want you to get used to walking down an aisle, angel." Her eyes grow large and round before she squeals and launches herself into my arms.

"Are you serious? You want to marry me?" Instead of answering her, I kiss her until I don't have to give anything away.

"Come on, sweetheart. We have a doctor to meet."

"How?" I bundle her up into the car and climb in beside her. "I don't know any doctors. We have one on the island that most of the people go to but I don't think she specializes in what we need, Peirce."

I chuckle as we make our way back to the Castle. In between kisses and lovemaking, Willa told me the importance of the building and the land it stands on. It doesn't take us long to get there. We make it there just in time to see the helicopter carrying the doctor touch down. Willa looks at me with her sweet mouth open in wonder that I would fly a doctor to the island. I would fly the whole god damn East Coast to this island if it meant she was going to be happy and healthy.

The doctor is thin and older than both of us. She has a motherly feel about her that goes a long way to put her patients at ease I'm sure. I look over to Willa to make sure she is alright with her. I don't care how good this woman is supposed to be - and she comes highly recommended - if my angel doesn't like her, she's gone. She holds her hand out for the both of us to shake and then makes her introductions.

We go through all the medical stuff and she takes blood from Willa to run tests. After about an hour she looks at everything and tells us that yes we are absolutely pregnant about eleven weeks along and she will give Willa something for nausea that should help her through the worst of it. She takes off again like she came after she's answered all of our questions - mine mostly about what is and isn't safe and Willa's about what she can and can't eat during her pregnancy.

Once she's gone, Willa turns to look at me. She's been on a seesaw of emotions, crying and laughing and crying again. Through it all, I sit and hold her. Now she's turned to me like she might be about to tell me a secret.

"I don't want to model anymore."

"Okay."

She frowns at me. "Okay? That's alright?"

"Why wouldn't that be alright, angel?" Did someone pressure her to do the whole modeling thing? If I find out someone did they are in for a bad time.

"I...I was kind of worried that you might...I don't know, it's stupid. I just thought you might be disappointed that I'm not a model anymore."

"Angel, I'm not with you so you can be a status symbol for me. I don't give a shit if you want to say to hell with everything and become a hippie who lives in a hut in the woods in Europe. I would follow you and we would make it work." I take her hand in mine and bring it to my lips for a kiss.

She gives me a watery smile before she hugs me again. "I want to design clothes." She tells me what she wants with a gleam in her eyes that I promise myself she will always have. If she wants to design clothing then I want that for her too. I'm going to support her no matter what.

We spend the rest of our time cuddling with one another. It leads to me giving her an orgasm with my hands and letting her suck my cock. It's not rushed at all and makes me think of all the time we have together. Maybe Willa isn't the only one who needs to make a career change. I've worked so hard that our kids and grandkids won't have to worry about money but I think it might be time for me to take a step back.

We show up at the restaurant and I wait until everyone is sitting down and sort of calmer before I stand and use my glass to get everyone’s attention. Willa looks stricken and a little worried about what I might be about to do. I take her hand in mine.

"I understand Willa would want to wait but I feel like I've wasted so much time already - time I could have been loving my angel." I had the good fortune to meet Willa's mom and dad before the rehearsal today. They smile back at me now. I think they have a good idea about what is about to happen. I also look over at Ford and Payton.

"So I asked Payton and Ford if it would be all right and they have graciously said it would be more than alright with them...if I ask you," I turn to Willa who is sitting on the edge of her seat, "will you marry me, Wilhelmina Rose James ."

Before I can drop to my knee or take the ring box out of my pocket Willa is throwing herself at me and saying yes over and over again. I finally get the ring out.

"My grandfather met my grandmother in a dance hall. She wasn't the kind of girl his parents wanted him to be with so he told them to take their money and shove it up their...," I catch myself before I look around the room at all of Willa's sisters and their men and her mom and dad, "Well, you all can guess. He took my grandmother, married her and built an empire for her. It took him ten years but he was finally able to give her the ring she deserved."

I need to tell her all of this. She needs to know how special this ring is to me and my family. "When my dad found my mom, grandma gave it to him for her. So," I look at her with all the love I have for her hopefully shining in my eyes so she can tell, "I understand the legend of this island. I know how important it is. And I believe it...because my family has its own and now it’s our turn. Now you have it." I slide the ring into her trembling hand. She has big tears in her eyes and the look on her face is one I will never forget.

"It's fucking huge!" I think that came from Hadden, the youngest one.

"It was so hard to keep it in before he did it!" Payton squeals and rushes to hug Willa.

"You knew," Payton answers her with a nod.
