“You don’t think anyone in his family will say anything to him?” Ali asked.

“I really don’t think so. His brothers are a few years older, and I can’t imagine them remembering either of us. Nobody has said anything yet, so I’m staying mum about it.”

“You’ve really thought this through?” Ali asked, surprised by her sister’s candid response.

“It’s complicated enough just working with him, so I am reluctant to stir the pot anymore. I’m going to keep things the way they are right now,” Jane answered.

“Janie…” Ali said kindly, wondering if her reasoning was because she was worried about Austin knowing that she had a crush on him back then, along with remembering an experience she was sure Jane wanted to forget. “You’re worried he’s going to remember, aren’t you?”

Jane sat staring back at her sister, and she knew her sister was correct. She knew why she so desperately didn’t want him to discover that they went to high school together, and worried if she said anything, his memory would be jogged. It was one thing she wished she could erase from her high school memory bank. Everyone has had that one awkward or embarrassing moment in high school that they want to forget, and her moment was with Austin Drew.

“Yes, I am, and it’s eating away at me,” Jane answered, wanting to forget about Austin Drew for the rest of the evening and talk about something else. He had consumed her thoughts enough this week; she just wanted one evening of laughter. “I just want to forget about Austin, The Oxford, and any other Drew family talk for the rest of the night,” she said, as she grabbed her fork to take a bite of the food that had just been delivered to their table. As she took her first bite, she felt her body start to relax a little. She took a moment to sit back in her seat and look around the pub. As she did a little people watching, she happened to catch the door open, and in came Chris Drew, followed by a few buddies. Jane froze and immediately wondered if Austin was with them.

“What’s wrong?” Ali asked, seeing her sister’s face change as she looked toward the door.

“Chris Drew just walked in,” Jane said quietly, continuing to look around. “I’m just hoping Austin isn’t with him.”

“Are you kidding? My God, this family won’t give you a break,” Ali said as she casually turned around, seeing Chris and his friends across the room. “Well… I’ll tell you one thing for sure.”

“What’s that?” Jane asked, feeling confident and relieved that Austin wasn’t with his brother.

“Chris has certainly aged well,” she said, smiling in his direction.
