Austin laughed at his father’s response, knowing full well that some of his Palm Beach activities would eventually get back to his father, hoping that not all of his secrets had been revealed down there.

“Nothing got out of hand,” Austin remarked, “just so you know.”

“Oh… I know,” Charles answered with a knowing look. “But, let’s face it, you can schmooze with the best of them, and if there’s anyone who knows how to host a party and make sure it’s an A-list event, it’s you. That’s why when this big, last-minute celebrity wedding came through, which will be huge for us, you came to mind immediately. I want you to work with my Director of Events on it because the timetable is crazy tight on top of our already packed event schedule, so I know she’s going to need extra help with it. NDAs were just signed, and I’ll need you to sign on so I can reveal who it is, but it’s a good one,” Charles smiled big, obviously excited about it.

“You’re not going to tell me who?” Austin asked, looking at his father with a carefree, boyish grin.

“That’s not how I work,” Charles answered, nodding his head with a knowing look. “But it’s a biggie with a guest list that is sure to be a who’s who kind of thing. I want you to assist with this event and get your feet wet. I’d like the business to be attractive to more celebrities as a venue, and this will help put us on the map.” He looked at his son, hoping he knew how important these goals were for future business. “This is a big deal, Austin, and I think this could be the perfect spot for you within The Oxford. We need a family frontman, and you would be a wonderful spokesperson for the family and for The Oxford.”

“You don’t think I could handle this event on my own? I need to assist someone?” Austin asked, wondering how hard it could be to put on a wedding event at The Oxford. Everything was already in place. It was just a matter of making a few phone calls.

“I know you can’t, not on your own,” Charles answered without missing a beat. “I want you to be the perfect spokesperson for The Oxford and our family on this one. I want this client to know that we’re here for anything. They already have a big-time wedding planner that they’re working with, who will be another point person. I want you to get in good with her so that she will refer more business our way, as well. This is a big one, and the timing with you here couldn’t be more perfect. We haven’t ever hosted a wedding with this kind of potential, press, and exposure. So, putting it simply, you’re needed on this one. End of story.”

Austin looked at his father and slowly nodded his head, knowing that he didn’t have any excuse to get out of this. He didn’t like the idea of having to assist someone. It felt like he was going to have a babysitter. He didn’t want to be fetching coffee and doing stuff like that, and he hoped his father knew that. “So you seriously need me to have a babysitter on this one?” He winked, letting his father know that he was joking around, but still not happy about it.

“I should mention that,” Charles said with a smile, enjoying sharing his next tidbit of information, “my Director of Events isn’t too excited about babysitting you, either.”
