“I think so,” Jane answered, not wanting to think about it, “and, to be truthful, she was a bitch to me and he never really stepped in to stop her. I feel like she went out of her way to keep him to herself, and he didn’t exactly seem to mind. After our flight out to L.A., I just thought things would be different, but just like that— he was all Molly’s. He just seems to fit with her and her lifestyle. I don't know, there’s nothing more to say.”

“Men…” Ali said, wanting to sympathize. “Typical Drew boys … nothing changes. They are rich and popular. They belong to the country club. They drive expensive cars. They dine out at the ritzy spots in Providence. They drop money like it’s a hot potato. We’re not part of that world and I don’t want to see you get hurt. I mean, let’s be serious Janie, the guy didn’t even remember you from high school. Think about that for a second. You deserve so much more.”

“You are not an Austin Drew fan, are you?” Jane asked, looking over at her sister with a curious look.

“Not when he’s messing with my sister,” Ali shot back. “He’s the only guy that I’ve ever seen you get visibly upset about. I don't know what it is about him with you.”

Jane stared back at her sister, knowing she was being protective, and she didn’t want to see her get hurt. She was very familiar with the side of Austin that Ali was talking about. He was the rich kid who didn’t work—who didn’t have to work, and who glided through life without a care in the world. But she had seen a different side of Austin, and that was the man she was falling for. He was so much more than a carefree playboy, and she wasn't sure many people knew that about him.

“I don’t want to get hurt either, Ali… believe me,” Jane said, feeling the tears welling up in her eyes. She knew Austin would most likely end up with a woman like Molly, but she couldn’t help what she was feeling.

“Oh, Janie,” Ali said, as she went over to hug her sister. “Don’t get upset.”

“It’s just a lot, Ali,” Jane added while dabbing her eyes. “I mean, I have to deal with Austin for the next two weeks, which is going to kill me. I wouldn’t be surprised if Molly figured out some reason to fly back to Rhode Island just to see him. I don’t know what it is with Austin. I really don’t. I just started to feel things and then, during this trip, I found myself really falling for him. I learned so much about him on the flight, all good things, even surprising things. I don’t know. Things felt so natural, that’s all. Working with him isn’t going to be easy.”

“Is there much work left to do for the wedding?” Ali asked, cocking her head to the side, hoping the worst was over. There was something about Austin that didn’t sit right with her. He was such a cocky ass in high school, and she couldn’t imagine much had changed over the last 10 years.Once a player, always a player, and the worst thing was-- his family let him get away with it.

“There is not much left to do, just confirming details until the actual wedding,” Jane answered as she took a deep breath. “But I will have to deal with Austin and Molly together at the wedding.”

“Maybe you can keep yourself busy and avoid them as much as possible,” Ali added, hoping to help.

“Hopefully,” Jane answered. Hoping to distract herself, she got up from her bed, grabbed her carry-on, and began to unpack. “Maybe everything you’re saying is true. Molly and Austin do make sense together as a couple. You can tell that just by seeing them together. Maybe, in his eyes, I’m always going to be that nondescript, awkward girl from high school.”

Ali couldn’t stop staring at her sister, seeing the hurt and confusion in her eyes. She loved her sister more than anything and absolutely hated seeing her upset, especially over Austin Drew. She wasn’t going to let her sister wallow, that was out of the question. “So, let me tell you what you’re going to do,” Ali said in an authoritative tone.

Jane looked over, not sure what her sister was going to say, but the conviction in her voice was clear. “What’s that?”

“Just what you did back in high school. You’re going to get over him because you know you can. He wasn’t worth the aggravation back then, and he’s certainly not worth it now. As a matter of fact, none of the Drew brothers are.” Ali reached out her hand to her sister and gave it a tight squeeze.
