Jane stood staring at him, confused as to what was happening. She couldn’t figure out why he was here, or what he needed to tell her. He seemed nervous, hesitant.

“I want to ask you out,” Austin blurted, hoping the words came out correctly because he couldn’t hear himself speak over the beating of his heart.

Jane looked away for a second and then right back at him. “You want to ask me out?”

“Yes,” he nodded, “I’d like to ask you out on a date…with me…on a date that has nothing to do with anything but us,” he said, looking at her with hopeful eyes.

A small smile spread on Jane’s lips, causing Austin to smile in return. “Are you serious?” she asked, hoping this was not a joke because her heart couldn’t take that. “What about Molly?”

Austin walked slowly toward Jane, closing the gap between them completely, and reaching out to hold one of her hands. “I’ve got nothing going on with Molly. Nothing at all, and I never have.”

Jane looked into his eyes, and as she did she felt butterflies in her stomach. “Does Molly know that?” she asked with a small laugh.

Austin chuckled softly, “She does, believe me. I don’t have any feelings for her. I never have. It’s you,” he said softly. “Only you.”

Jane’s insides melted hearing him say those two words.

“You sure Tim’s not going to jump out from somewhere right now?” Jane joked as she held Austin’s hand, still trying to process what was happening.

“You’re not going to make this easy on me, huh? I deserve it,” he said with a smile, taking her other free hand in his and holding onto both of them while looking into her eyes.

“I just want to make sure you are speaking the truth, especially after everything,” Jane replied, feeling nervous, but knowing she needed to protect herself. This man had disappointed her in the past, and she was not going to let that happen again.

"I promise you, Jane. There is no Molly and no Tim. This is just us, right here, right now,” he replied as his lips curved into a smile.“You are so beautiful and kind and smart. I haven’t been able to get you off of my mind since L.A. You’re the one I want, nobody else.”

Jane held his glance for a few seconds, knowing that she had waited a long time for this very moment, much longer than he had. “Well, then, I think a date sounds nice,” she smiled, feeling her heart explode. “When were you thinking?”

As the words came out of her mouth, Austin leaned down and cupped her cheeks in his hands, and their lips touched. Their kiss was quick, but it was sweet and tender.“Actually, I was thinking right now,” he said as he gestured to the table for two.

Jane turned to look at the table, fully set for dinner for two with the candles burning, and said, “This is for us?” She blushed, realizing that he had gone above and beyond to make this happen.

Austin smiled at her and walked her over to the table to get a better look at it. “I had the staff set this table for us.”

“For dinner? With the wedding going on?” Jane said, somewhat stunned.

“Things are winding down and everything is basically finished tonight,” Austin said, smiling at Jane, “I was hoping you would have dinner in here with me,” he said sincerely. “I saved you a seat,” he winked at Jane. “This table is set for just the two of us,” he added, looking deeply into her eyes

Jane smiled. “This is my seat,” she whispered, feeling as though she could cry. “All I’ve ever wanted was for someone to save me a seat.”

“And I will always save a seat for you, Jane. I promise,” Austin said, leaning down for a kiss. “Now and forever.”
