Jane let out a laugh, “So a night of fun and a hookup?”

“Not just a hookup,” she chuckled in a matter-of-fact tone. “Some of the most eligible bachelors around here frequent the same places we go. I’m telling you, there are a lot of handsome, rich, local guys out there, just waiting to meet the gorgeous Jane Jones. The fact that you are single is a travesty,” she teased.

Jane laughed out loud and started walking toward her office, but then quickly turned toward Kimberly again, “I’ll tell you what, I don’t need rich… but if you can find me someone sweet, funny, loyal, and super hot, I'm game!” And with that, she kept on laughing as she headed to her office.

“I can work with that,” Kimberly shouted back with a grin on her face, watching Jane walk away, and then added, “Good luck with the meeting! I’ll catch up with you later.”

Jane smiled to herself as she walked away, feeling grateful to have such amazing colleagues at work. That nice distraction with Kimberly had calmed her nerves a bit, which was exactly what she needed. She couldn’t believe that she was nervous about this meeting with Mr. Drew and Austin. She had met with Mr. Drew dozens and dozens of times throughout the last three months, and she just needed to remember that he was running the meeting, not Austin.

But she couldn’t shake the latest rumors that she had heard about Austin, which made her nervous. He was supposedly not happy about being told that it was time to grow up and work. She had heard through Kimberly that his brothers were happy with their jobs and even excited to be fitting themselves into the family business, but it was Austin who was still acting like a spoiled brat about taking his place in the family business.

To be honest, she didn’t know much about Austin Drew. She only remembered him as the guy she had a major crush on in high school. She sat in front of him in chemistry class during her sophomore year because he had to repeat the class again, but they never spoke a word to each other in that class. He never made eye contact with her but, like a silly schoolgirl, she had looked forward to that class every single day because she got to see him. He was the hot older upperclassman she couldn’t get out of her head, but it was clear he only had eyes for the popular, party-type girls, not the studious, nerdy girl sitting in front of him.

As she was unlocking her office door, she heard her phone buzz, alerting her that a text had just come through. She tossed her handbag on her desk and rummaged through it to grab her phone. Looking at her phone, she saw it was a message from Mr. Drew apologizing for the last-minute change, but asking if she could meet at 1 pm today because Austin was running late.

Jane rolled her eyes. She wouldn’t dream of saying no to her boss, but her blood began to boil all the same. Austin Drew was already living up to his reputation as a spoiled brat, and he wasn’t even in the office yet.
