The doorman greeted her when she arrived back at Teag’s apartment. He had a doorman in his building, for god’s sake. She almost rolled her eyes, but the man was so kind and genuinely concerned for Teag’s health that Maria gave him a bright smile before heading into the elevator. There were probably a lot of things she’d have to get used to if she was going to date one of the most famous musicians in the world.

Deep in thought, she unlocked the door expecting to find Teag asleep and the house quiet. Instead, it sounded like he was having a small party. Maybe this was another side to the rockstar life she’d have to get used to.

When she turned the corner into the living room, Teag lay sprawled on the couch, with Lissa seated on the coffee table, blood pressure cuff and stethoscope in hand. Her face brightened into a smile when she saw Maria.

“I wanted to stop by and give him a once-over,” Liss said. “Then, when the other gals heard I was coming, they wanted to come by too.” Liss scrunched her face up in an apology. “I know you guys are tired, but we brought food, and booze.”

Maria looked at Teag, who grinned at her.

“I want to check your arm next,” Liss said, wagging a finger at Maria.

Just then, Dani trotted out of the kitchen holding a tray of food. She set it down on the table in front of Teag and turned to Maria.

“Come here, girl,” she said, pulling Maria into a hug, but careful of her bandaged arm. “Holy shit, you guys had us scared to death.”

Fiona, and Chrissy, Julian’s wife, came out of the kitchen with wine glasses. Fiona shoved one into Maria’s hands. “Sit. Relax. There’s a lasagna in the fridge, soup in the crock pot, and a peach pie on the counter courtesy of Allie. We’ll get out of your way soon, but for now, let us take care of you.”

Maria swallowed down the lump in her throat. She curled up on the opposite side of the couch from Teag, pulling the blanket over her legs, and took the glass of wine from her friend’s hand. Liss returned to her spot on the coffee table and proceeded to examine Maria’s arm. Under the blanket, Teag poked Maria with his foot. She shook her head and laughed.

Teag had a lot of recovering to do. While his physical injuries would heal, the emotional stress would likely haunt him for a while. But this group of friends would be there every step of the way. She’d be there every step of the way.

“What are you thinking?” he asked.

“I love our life already,” she answered.

“And it’s only going to get better,” he promised.
