Page 16 of Not Kissing Nick

It was a three bedroom two-bath ranch in a decent part of town, co-owned by two of his nephews. It was in great condition. Not that he’d expected differently. His nephews took the motto “any job worth doing is worth doing well” to heart, after all.

The rooms were decent sized, the kitchen was up-to-date, and there was room in the backyard for kids to play. There was a park three blocks away.

“We just changed the locks two days ago, and had the carpet cleaned,” Martin was saying. “Here are the keys.”

Chandler was on his way over with furniture for two kids’ bedrooms now. Nick had called the furniture store and paid for the mattresses with his credit card number.

He’d ordered himself a queen-size bed as well.

In the meantime… “I guess this is going to be home.”

Martin slapped him on the back. “You’ll figure this out. If not, I’m going to enjoy the show.”

“Thanks.”

Kaece came in through the open door, his identical twin Reese right behind him. “We talked to Auggie, told her what’s going on. She had some stuff in her shop that she told us to come and get. We got you a full living room suit. It’s used, but it’s clean and in really good shape—came from the Preston place when Gil took it over. Should hold up to a pair of kids for a while.”

“Let’s get it unloaded,” Martin said.

Just like that, the boys helped him out. Nick appreciated every one of his nephews and nieces. He was proud of who they had become.

They had him a full living room suit, kids’ dressers and bed frames, a dining room table and chairs.

They had places to sit, to eat, and to sleep. That was just the beginning.

He checked his watch.

Robin was going to be bringing Nova to him soon.

And Jude…she’d said someone would be there in two hours, with the little boy Nick hadn’t seen in years.

Tonight, he’d go to bed a father.
