Page 85 of Not Kissing Nick

“Yes, it does. I feel…free…here in Masterson. Like I didn’t in Finley Creek. And like my girls are free to figure out who they are here, too. In a way they couldn’t on Boethe Street.”

Robin understood. Glenna had been harassed by her late husband’s family, to the point they’d tried to abduct her youngest daughter. That had been the incentive for her to pack up her girls spur of the moment and relocate with help from a women’s charity in Finley Creek.

Relocated right into Robin’s brother-in-law’s house, acting as his housekeeper. Phil had taken one look at Glenna and decided he was never letting her get away.

It was absolutely beautiful.

Masterson was absolutely beautiful.

“Nick doing ok?” Glenna asked quietly.

“I think so. Why?”

“Because he’s right there by the third base line and he’s watching every move you make. He’d better be careful—he’s going to take a ball to the head if he doesn’t turn around fast.” Glenna snickered wickedly. “So…just how ok is my future brother-in-law being?”

Robin checked the girls quickly. They weren’t listening to a thing their mothers were saying—no surprise there—as they chattered about T-ball and softball practice.

She hoped the boys had just as much fun as the girls tonight.

“He…looks at me and I feel like that eighteen-year-old girl again. He was my first real kiss, Glen. I was far too young and naive, and he definitely knew what he was doing. Boy, did that man know what he was doing.” She looked over at where he stood with three little boys—not hers or his—surrounding him, hanging on his every word as he held a ball up in one hand. He looked perfectly relaxed right there, with a bunch of kids surrounding him. “He’s just gotten better with age.”

“I know exactly how you feel, Robbie. Don’t rush into anything you aren’t ready for. Promise me that.”

Robin nodded. “The problem is…when I’m with him…I just can’t seem to think. At least not rationally. And I know…I’m as close to ready with him as I will ever be another man again. He…he makes me feel different than I ever have before.”

Glenna laughed quietly. Happily. “I can understand that, too. Phil…he’s everything Lincoln was not. When he looks at me in that one particular way he has, I lose all ability to even think. I’ve never had a man love me like that. In that moment, I am Phil’s entire world.”

Robin’s breath caught at the look in her friend’s eyes.

When Nick touched her, that was exactly how she felt.

Just like she had back then, before.

Twenty years apart hadn’t changed that.

And that terrified her to her toes.
