“Does your skin hurt?”

“Not so far.”

Tumbles cooed louder, and we strode up the next rise to join him.

“As for your first kiss,” Summer said, her cheeks getting even redder. This burn of the sun must be accelerating. I needed to find a way to shield her skin. “You’re welcome to practice your first kiss on me.”

“What?”

She cringed. “Oh, jeez, never mind.” She started down the hill ahead of me and Tumbles, but I grabbed her arm to hold her back.

“I do mind. Do you mean what you offer?” I watched her face, expecting her to say I’d misunderstood.

“Yeah, I meant it.” Her gaze met mine with a boldness that made my heart stall. “I want to kiss you.”
