She stared at the bottom of the glass in her hand. How many did she have? Margaritas from a pitcher had to be less potent than actual margaritas, right?

The party went on around her. Drew teased Morgan. Phoebe teased Morgan. Jonah talked with everyone but Lacy. Logan tried to involve her in a few conversations but she lost track of what they were talking about.

Everyone was talking again, but they swayed back and forth. Were they on a boat? Was she on a boat? She glanced down under the table.

“Come on, Lacy.”

Lacy’s head turned to Claire, standing behind her. “What?”

“We need to go to the bathroom.” Claire grabbed her arm and gave her a tug.

Lacy frowned and looked at Claire’s hand on her arm before glancing at the table. Drew and Morgan were gone. When did they leave? How did they get off the boat? Did she want off the boat?

She tried to reach for the pitcher to fill up her glass, but Claire’s hold wouldn’t let her. She glanced up at Claire.

“What?”

“Lacy, stand up.” Claire tugged her again, practically lifting her from the chair.

Lacy staggered to her feet and Claire dragged her through the crowded bar, past the restrooms and to a side door that was propped open. The cold air caressed Lacy’s face and she sighed.

“You can’t hold your drink.” Claire propped Lacy against the wall before leaning next to her.

“Nope.” Lacy popped the p and snickered. The cold air slowly lifted a little of the fog in her brain.

The crowded bar hid their table from their view.

“What’s with the alcohol binge?” Claire looked at her fingernails and then stretched her arms over her head. “Usually you sip, not chug.”

Lacy tapped her fingers against her lips. Her lips felt funny. Maybe they looked funny too. She couldn’t see them from this angle.

“Please tell me this does not have to do with Logan?”

Lacy’s head whipped toward Claire and her eyesight took a second to catch up, causing the room to lurch. “What?”

“You have a thing for Logan. Now he’s acting all nice like he wants to get into your pants and you are probably freaking out.” Claire shrugged. “It makes sense.”

“What?” Words were coming out of Claire’s mouth, but Lacy couldn’t see where she was going with those words. Logan was being nice? Yeah, so. He wasn’t Jonah.

“Don’t sleep with Logan.” Claire pressed a finger to Lacy’s forehead.

She almost went cross-eyed trying to see it.

“He’s not the kind of guy to settle down. No matter how much he thinks he might want to.” Claire removed her finger and blew a stray hair out of her face. “I love the guy, but he’s got the worst sense of timing. It’s obvious Jonah has a thing for you. I think that’s the only reason Logan wants to make a move.”

“What?” Lacy felt like she was stuck on that one word, but Claire wasn’t making sense to her alcohol-soaked brain. Why were they talking about Logan?

“Logan only wants you because Jonah wants you.”

“Jonah doesn’t want me.” The ashes of Lacy’s heart tossed like confetti in her chest. Worst party ever.

“The guy can’t take his eyes off you.” Claire shook her head. “He’s been so fucking worried about you all night he finally asked me to check in with you to make sure you are all right. That boy has it bad.”

Tears sprang forward and Lacy blinked them away. “He’s just a friend.”

“That’s not the way friends look at each other. Trust me.” Claire leaned her head against the wall.

Lacy mimicked her and inhaled the cold air. The air did help a little with the swaying. She released her breath and turned her head toward Claire. “He’s leaving.”

“Jonah?” Claire turned her head to Lacy for confirmation, then turned it back and shrugged. “It won’t stick. He may think he has to leave, but he has something to come back for now.”

“What?” Lacy asked softly.

“You.”
