“You mean a relationship?” Claire covered her mock shocked expression with her hand and winked at Lacy. Apparentlyshehadn’t forgotten about Lacy. “God forbid Logan O’Connell settle for one woman for longer than a weekend.”

The heat crept up Lacy’s cheeks. Okay, she knew that wasn’t a plus in the Logan column, but love could make a man want to change. It wasn’t like he was a cheater since he didn’t commit to anyone.

If he fell in love with Lacy, then he’d only be with her. Right? Love could make a man want to settle down. At least they did in the movies and books.

Logan laughed. “My parents have been married for thirty-five years. Commitment is bred into us O’Connells. Sue me if I want to spend my bachelor years experimenting.”

Claire laughed. “Experimenting is the new word for random hookups?”

Lacy’s heart lurched at him talking about commitment. She hadn’t been wrong about him giving up his ways for the right woman. However, a pit formed in Lacy’s stomach. Experimenting? What the hell did he mean? And what would that mean for that special lady he could finally settle down with? And how could she be that lady for him?

“I think you broke Hatcher,” Claire stated, drinking her coffee.

“Too early for sex talk, Lace?” Logan lifted his eyebrow at her.

She blinked at them, feeling the heat rising to her cheeks, and shook her head. “Not enough coffee. Still in zombie mode.”

Logan shook his head with a soft smile on his lips. “She’s so cute when she’s in zombie mode.”

“When they finally make injections of caffeine, Lacy will be first in line.” Claire nodded.

They laughed, and Lacy chuckled with them, even knowing she was the butt of the joke. When they started talking about the stats of some player on some sports ball team, Lacy slipped out and went to her desk.

Cute was good, right? She wanted to latch onto that, but Logan was still experimenting. By hooking up.

How long would that last? A few months, a year, two, five? Could she wait that long to start her life? Could she wait for Logan? Of course she could, but maybe she could find a way to hurry things along.

Maybe if she could convince him to experiment with her, he would figure out she was the one for him and skip to the happily ever after. She cringed. Only if he wanted a failed experiment. If she didn’t want what happened in college to repeat, she needed to figure out what was wrong with her.

What if she plain just sucked at sex? That would be a problem, especially if she only had a weekend to prove herself to Logan. But she didn’t want to be a weekend fling, she wanted to be the one for the long haul. That meant figuring out how to get him to ask her out and figuring out how to have sex that didn’t make him never want to talk to her again.

“We already have a handful of clients and a few potentials we need to prepare proposals for,” Drew’s voice filled the open area.

Lacy still had her head in her cup of coffee when she remembered Claire saying the new guy started today. Easier to focus on the new guy than trying to decode her lack of a romantic entanglement and inability to keep a guy with sex.

Curiosity latched onto her as she waited to see the hot shot from L.A. Would he look like a surfer dude or some smarmy Hollywood guy? Maybe he was older and sophisticated. Wait, Claire had called him a hottie, but older guys could be hot. She settled on the imaginary surfer dude. Long blond hair, sun-kissed skin and loads of “dudes” and “whatevers.” Maybe a Heath Ledger type. That would be some nice office eye candy.

She needed to make a note to do a Heath Ledger marathon this weekend.10 Things I Hate about You.A Knight’s Tale.Casanova.

She lifted her gaze to where Drew stood in the doorway of his and Morgan’s office. Drew always dressed in a suit and tie, even if he left his jacket in his office all day. Curly dark hair and stunning blue eyes completed the package. He was handsome and super friendly.

Lacy sipped her coffee as Morgan came out. Morgan’s blond hair was pulled into a bun and she always dressed in pencil skirts and blouses. So professional. Lacy wished she could get away with that look but didn’t have the attitude or confidence to pull it off.

Drew gave Morgan a soft look that made Lacy want to happy sigh. Drew and Morgan were #relationshipgoals.

“Most of us work the standard eight to five, but we don’t discourage people from working late or arriving early or shifting their time by an hour or so. We try to be flexible for personal time as well.” Morgan glanced over and nodded at Lacy. “We’re trying to build a team here. We don’t have a lot of the rules larger corporations have.”

“That’s why I decided to come here.”

Lacy froze mid-sip. No. It couldn’t be. That voice. Dark and gravelly. Nope. There’s no wayhewas the new guy.

“Fantastic,” Drew said. “Let’s get you acquainted with the team.”

Jonah stepped out of the office and his eyes connected with hers. She swallowed her coffee hard and started choking and coughing. Great, this was how she’d die. Fitting. Death by coffee.
