Sophie opened the door to his room and he stepped inside. She hung back for a second before coming to stand in the doorway. The room had red walls. Huge loft style windows. A king-sized bed, closet, a decent armchair, nightstands. Better than the same hotel room in different cities.

Sophie backed out of the room and into the common area as he headed her way. “It’ll work for you?”

The kitchen seemed a little small, but it would do. A bathroom was a bathroom. As long as it had a toilet, sink and shower, he’d be fine.

“It’ll do.” He didn’t look Lacy’s way. He could feel the weight of her eyes on him though.

He didn’t need to look to remember the way the fabric of her pajamas draped over her in a way to suggest the slender curves beneath. Those hints of golden skin peeking out made him want to explore. Would her skin be as hot to the touch as it looked?

Fuck. No, he needed to get his head on straight and find someone not living with him to take the edge off. He refused to skim over Sophie in her tight jeans cradling that ass and the T-shirt hugging her breasts. He didn’t know who tempted him more at the moment, but it shouldn’t matter. Both were off-limits, at least for the next three months.

“Here’s the key and the code for the door downstairs.” Sophie grabbed them from the kitchen counter peninsula and handed them to him. “When will you move in?”

He pocketed the key and code in his low hung jeans. “I’ve got my things downstairs.”

“Great.” Sophie went over to stand next to Lacy.

He nodded, not really looking at either of them and headed out the door. Fuck, maybe before he moved out he’d see if they’d be interested in a threesome. The angel and the temptress.

* * *

Holy crap crackers!A gorgeous beast had just wandered through Lacy’s living room. His voice, dark and gravelly, sent shivers down her spine. He’d looked her over and then dismissed her.

No one had told Lacy they’d be getting a guy for a roommate. Especially a hot one with an attitude. Fortunately, her type was hot guys who wereniceand not interested in her. She’d given up on guys with attitudes after college.

As soon as the door shut, Lacy turned to Sophie. “Him?”

Sophie blew out a breath with her hands on her hips. “Apparently he’s some friend of Brenda’s who got a new job in town and needed a place for a while. That’s about the extent of what I know. He’s not much of a talker.”

“Ha, that’s an understatement.”

He’d left her hand hanging in the air instead of shaking it. Who did that kind of stuff? It was polite to shake someone’s hand when offered. Not look at it like she offered him rabies with a side of syphilis.

“At least he’ll be a quiet roommate, maybe.” Sophie pushed her hair from her face. “But nice eye candy.”

Eye candy or not, it didn’t matter. After all, Lacy had been in love with Logan O’Connell ever since they first met six months ago at Taylor and King. She had been the new copywriter and he’d been the new marketing guy. Perfect didn’t begin to describe it. The best meet-cute ever. They’d met in the coffee room and he’d offered her a mug from a high shelf. Then they’d both sipped their coffee together as if they were totally in sync. Coffee and Logan. Heaven.

Lacy sank onto the couch and cringed, remembering the conversation Sophie and Jonah walked in on. Even though she and Beth were both twenty-six and gainfully employed adults, they had been best friends since grade school. Talking to Beth always made Lacy feel like a teenager again. Especially when the topic focused on guys. Which it usually did. Well, one guy on her end.

Not knowing when Sophie and Jonah came in, Lacy had brazened it out, hoping they’d heard nothing at all, and especially not her spouting her hopeless infatuation with her crush. “How much did you guys hear?”

“You mean about your blazing love for Logan?” Sophie laughed as she sat next to Lacy. “Mostly just your undying love. I’m sure he would have overheard it eventually anyway.”

“Yeah, well.” Lacy sighed. Sophie was right. If he lived here, he’d hear it eventually. Most people knew Lacy’s business. Secrets weren’t exactly her specialty. She only hoped the people at work hadn’t guessed yet. “That was supposed to be a private conversation.”

“Which is why we have bedrooms. For privacy.” Sophie rolled her eyes and turned the TV on.

“Better reception in the living room.” Lacy yanked the afghan off the back of the couch and pulled it over her legs.

“You didn’t sound at all stalkerish,” Sophie reassured her as she patted Lacy’s knee.

“Well that’s good. I’m not a stalker, you know. I work with him.”

It wasn’t like she stole his underwear or stood outside his apartment and took pictures. She didn’t even know where he lived. She just liked him and wanted to be more than coworkers.

Lacy pulled her phone up to text Beth about the new roommate. Beth had moved halfway across the country after they graduated college. “I really like Logan and maybe someday he’ll feel the same. It happens that way sometimes. You know, friends to lovers.”

Sophie snorted. “I think you at least need to be friends first for that to happen.”
