“It’s not a date.” Jonah filled his mug and gave her a serious look.

“I know, but it’s the first time he’s asked to do something outside of work.” Lacy took a drink. Still riding the high. “It’s not a date; it’s an opportunity.”

Jonah shook his head and his lips tipped into a real smile this time. “Watch your expectations. Don’t feel bad when he goes home with someone else.”

Lacy straightened. She hadn’t thought this through. Logan always hooked up on the weekends. Well, usually, according to Claire. That also meant Jonah could potentially hookup this weekend too. She and Jonah had been polite but distant most of the week, but there’d been moments where he’d whip up a storm in her.

They hadn’t discussed the sex show or her unrequited feelings for Logan or anything significant. But it’d been sitting there festering. And every now and then, she’d seen a heat in Jonah’s eyes when he looked at her. Like now.

Her breath caught in her throat and the storm started in the center of her. His blue eyes were locked on hers. Her pulse raced and a tremor worked down her spine. Clutching her coffee mug with both hands, she couldn’t stop herself from asking, “What about you?”

He stepped closer, surrounding her with his heat, and asked in his low, gravelly voice, “What about me?”

“Planning on bringing someone home?” Her heart thundered within her as she chastised herself for even asking the question. It wasn’t any of her business.

He leaned down until their faces were eye level. His blue eyes searched hers. His lips kicked into a grin. “Hoping for another show?”

She squeaked as her face burst with heat.

The door opened behind her. He’d already moved away as Claire walked in. Lacy spun on her heel and was out the door before it shut.

“Morning, Lacy?” Claire’s voice trailed out after her.

Lacy couldn’t slow the racing of her heart. They weren’t supposed to talk about it. His eyes from that night. . . . She couldn’t get them out of her head. She sat in her chair and drank her coffee while her computer booted and she tried not to think about Jonah.
