She dropped her arms to her sides, trying to be less confrontational. He may not be nice, but she was. “Brenda and I would try to consolidate grocery shopping. To make it easier. There’s a list on the fridge for when we need to replace something. You’re welcome to add to the list. . . if you are going to be around? Or do you travel for work?”

Please say you travel for work.Being around him day in and day out would be difficult if he didn’t talk much and continued to be as standoffish as he was now. It would be awkward, and she didn’t handle awkward well. Ergo, the talking.

“I start work on Monday,” he finally said.

She inhaled and huffed out her exhale. Well, this was going splendidly. “Do we need to figure out a bathroom schedule for the workweek? Or do you work second or third shift?”

He shrugged. “It’ll work out.”

She narrowed her eyes at him. Time to give him the girl reality trip. “I take really long showers in the mornings. Then I have to do my hair and makeup which takes forever. I also get up as late as possible to get as much sleep as possible. Brenda always went in later than me, so it wasn’t an issue. But if you want to be late for your first day, we can ‘wing it.’”

The corner of his lip curved slightly before the hint of a smile disappeared. He pushed off the doorframe and shifted closer again. The heat of his body engulfed hers. Lord, he was warm. And tall. And smelled ridiculously good. She swallowed and tilted her chin up to meet his eyes again.

Was he trying to intimidate her? Was it working? She swore her body temperature increased from the heat in his eyes.

His slight smile drew her attention to his full lips as he said, “Guess we’ll just have to learn to share the shower. You can wash my back and I can wash yours.”
