“Sexy is a lot of things. Confidence can be sexier than anything else. Whatever we land on will be sexy if we let it be.” Jonah pointed toward the clown and the kids swarming around them. “That’s definitely under the category of cute. But if you look around, the couple over there is romantic.”

A young couple in their early twenties had a blanket spread out under a tree. The woman sat cross-legged, leaning against the tree with the man’s head in her lap. She held a book in one hand and the other hand played with the man’s long dark hair. His eyes were closed, but a smile lit his face.

“Romantic but cute,” Lacy pointed out.

“What would make it sexy?” Jonah leaned in closer to her and whispered in her ear. “If the woman had on more revealing clothes? Maybe a skirt and a low-cut blouse. If the man’s chest were showing? Does showing skin make something sexier? What if her hand trailed not in his hair, but up and down his chest?”

The images he painted were definitely sexy to Lacy’s mind. “Is it the lack of clothing or the intimacy you suggested that makes it sexy?”

“Mmmm.” Jonah finished the bite he’d taken and crumped up the newspaper. “Exactly.”

She turned to him as she finished her own lunch. “When we went shopping, you said sexy wasn’t just about showing more skin.”

“It doesn’t matter how much skin is shown as long as the intimacy is there.” Jonah pulled a couple of peppermint candies from his pocket and handed one to her. He must have grabbed them at the vendor too.

She popped the candy in her mouth. He took their trash and threw it in the garbage before returning to sit at her side.

“A kiss is sexy, right?” Jonah turned and put one of his knees up on the fountain between them.

Lacy’s gaze fell to his lips. Her fingers tingled, wanting to reach out and feel the softness of them. Yesterday, she’d been able to give into those impulses. “Mmmhmm.”

“Eye contact, eye to lip. Even lips close enough to almost kiss are sexy.” Jonah’s eyes lit up as she started to follow his thoughts.

“So, if that couple were staring into each other’s eyes, even that might make the scene sexier?”

“Potentially. I think for this particular ad campaign we don’t want sex that hits you over the head with a hammer, drags you into the bushes and has its way with you.” Jonah brushed a stray strand of hair off her cheek and behind her ear. His fingers lingered behind her ear, ratcheting up her pulse. “We want something soft and intimate that pulls at that desire within everyone to feel close.”

She swallowed. A kiss would be enough. Just Jonah’s lips against hers would satisfy her until they could find time to be together again. For a moment, she thought he might lean in and give her what she wanted, but instead he glanced down at his phone. She blew out a frustrated breath.

“We should get back.” He stood and held out his hand to her.

After he helped her to her feet, he kept her hand in his as they strolled through the park to their office building. His thumb brushed over her wrist and she hoped he couldn’t feel the crazy beat of her pulse under it.

Maybe Sophie would be home late tonight. Maybe Lacy could find the courage to ask Jonah to sneak into her room or find her own courage and sneak into his. Either way, she wanted to be with him again tonight. Maybe Sunday was a fluke. A one-off, and now that the initial desire was out of their systems, things would cool down.

Jonah tugged her into the corner of the elevator and smiled down at her as he tucked her against him. Her whole body lit up from the contact, like he was a live wire electrifying her being. Maybe it wasn’t a fluke.
