CHAPTER18

Lacy liftedher head off her arms and wiped away the little bit of drool from the corner of her mouth. “What time is it?”

Jonah worked on his laptop. They had moved out to the main office area after everyone else had left around six o’clock. Jonah and Lacy had shared some take-out dinner and started finishing their idea of the garden picnic with the couple, who were both fully clothed. Well, mostly clothed. The woman wore a white satin crop top and tea length satin ball gown skirt with a floral motif, and the man wore a white suit with the peach tie undone and his collar opened, showing a nice amount of chest. Both were barefoot.

Jonah had added that part.

“Almost ten.” Jonah leaned back in his chair and stretched.

Lacy had only meant to rest her eyes, but apparently she’d been asleep for almost a half hour. “Why didn’t you wake me?”

“You looked like you needed the sleep.” He half smiled at her and those funny trills of happiness floated through her chest, wrapping around her heart. The quickie in the copy room had been unexpected but had gone a long way in relieving the tension between them.

“I didn’t sleep well last night,” she confessed. The office seemed more empty with just the two of them in here. “I haven’t been here this late before.”

Jonah glanced around before returning his gaze to his screen. “We’re almost done and then we can head back to the apartment.”

The apartment, never “home” for Jonah. She’d noticed it before but it just struck her funny tonight. Did he even consider any place home?

“What can I do to help?” She pushed away from her desk and strolled around behind him.

A bunch of different images filled the screen. Jonah had taken the photos they’d found an hour ago and put them together in a seamless presentation. She couldn’t find anything she’d tweak to make the image better.

“Did you finish the script for the ad?” He spun his chair around to face her. Before she could answer, he grabbed her hips and pulled her down across his lap. Heat flushed through her.

“Hey,” she said and made an attempt to stand.

Instead, he spun them to his desk and trapped her in as his hands returned to the keyboard.

“Is this really helping?” She grabbed his beard and gave it a gentle tug. He playfully nipped the air near her hand.

“Definitely.” He continued to work on the remaining few slides of the presentation. This side of Jonah made her feel light and warm inside.

“If you say so.” Her fingers went into his hair and played with the silky strands. He had to move his head a little to be able to see his screen around her arms. Fighting a grin, she slid her fingers down to his ears and followed the swirls of them.

“What time does Sophie get home?” Jonah’s chest rumbled pleasantly against her side.

“She texted about an hour ago wondering where I was.” Her fingers followed the sides of his beard down to his lips. “I told her we are working late and not to wait up.”

She stroked her finger across his soft lower lip. Part of her couldn’t get over the fact she could touch him like this and he wanted her to be close to him. The other part wondered if they could get away with another quickie at work. At least no one was around to rattle the doorknob.

“Do you think we can sneak you into my room tonight?” Jonah didn’t look up from his work.

An even better idea.

Butterflies danced in her stomach at the thought of sleeping with Jonah. Sure, she’d slept with him on the couch and they’d been naked in his bed multiple times yesterday, but she hadn’t literally slept with him in his bed.

“We might be able to risk it.”

He grabbed her hand and kissed her fingertips. “Good.”

Had it really only been a little over a week since they met. Of course, things had escalated quickly between them. The free sex show. Him caring for her when she got drunk. Shopping for something sexy together. Going out. Sex in the kitchen. In the shower. In his bed. In the copy room.

“What’s got you all red?” Jonah said, his hands still on his mouse and keyboard.

“You. Me. This thing.” She sighed and rested her head on his shoulder. “I feel like I’m on a runaway train and I should want to get off, but I don’t want to stop.”

“Do you want to slow down?” His voice rumbled low and stirred up all sorts of sparks within her.
