He loved watching her tip over the edge. Even now after they had been together so many times, it never failed to amaze him. Her eyes widened in surprise and then softened into a haze as she came down. He could spend a lifetime exploring her body and giving her orgasms and never tire of her.

As her dark eyes focused on him, he had this urge to stay. With her. Not just for now, but always.

“Take me, Jonah.” Her hand cupped his cheek and she leaned forward to press her mouth to his. As her tongue touched his, he forgot about everything. Nothing mattered in this moment but Lacy.

He rocked into her. The whole office could beat down the door and it wouldn’t make a difference. He wanted her to come again. He wanted to make sure she would never forget him and what he did for her. He wanted to plant himself so deep in her psyche no man would ever measure up to him, as a friend or as a lover.

Her lips opened against his as she came undone again. He swallowed any sound she made and followed her over the edge. Air filling his lungs. His heart slowing. He kissed her soundly before resting his head on her shoulder. He didn’t want to move. He didn’t want to leave her. But he had to.

He pulled away, gently lowering her to her feet. She grinned up at him and his heart melted. They quickly fixed their clothing. The song had been playing on repeat in the background. He reached up and cupped her face, staring into her dark eyes and wanting so badly to say words he never thought he could.

He fucking loved this woman.

“We should get back to work,” she whispered.

How could she not see it on him? How could she not know how much he worshipped her? How much he loved her.

He blew out his breath. He had to leave. He could never be what she needed. Someone solid and dependable. Someone who knew how to love someone like her and protect her from guys like him. He couldn’t even admit to her that he loved her.

He couldn’t stay here and watch Lacy find happiness with someone else. Someone who deserved her.

Even if he tried to keep her for himself, his love would never be enough. He didn’t know how to love someone. He’d never stayed around until things got bad. She deserved someone better.

Lacy had never been the broken one, but she would be if he stayed. He would break her, because that was what he did. He couldn’t do that to her. Right now, the only one broken was him and he meant to keep it that way.

Something had happened.Lacy didn’t know what, but Jonah acted strange. They cleaned up and joined the rest of the team to finish working on the presentation. After almost an hour of sitting at the conference table, they decided to take another quick break to wake up.

Jonah walked off with his cell phone in his hand. He’d been texting every now and then during their work. She couldn’t help being curious. What drew his attention away from work?

She pulled out her own phone and texted Beth.Sorry so late. Work is taking forever. We should talk soon. Stuff happening.

The three little dots appeared almost immediately.Work has me up at all hours too. If you want to call me, I’ll be working for another hour or so before heading to bed.

We are on a quick break. I’m not sure how much longer this is going to take.Lacy glanced around the office at the others all in their own little worlds. It may not be tonight.

The dots appeared.Okay. Soon though. I miss you.

Miss you too.

Lacy slid her phone into her purse. She stood at her desk looking out to the hallway where Jonah had disappeared. Everyone else was either in the breakroom or standing around the conference table.

After she and Jonah had sex, at work, again, his eyes had been filled with an almost tenderness. Which of course, made her heart jump to all sorts of conclusions that definitely wouldn’t stand up to any litmus test. Yes, Jonah liked her. He liked having sex with her and she loved having sex with him. They were friends with benefits.

That should be it. Except half of them had fallen in love with the other half.

“Hey, Lacy.” Logan leaned against her desk next to her. “You staying awake?”

“Barely.” She smiled to wipe off the frown that had probably formed on her face. “How about you?”

“I’m hanging in there.” Logan’s gaze flowed over her and she worried something was out of place from her time with Jonah. But she’d double checked her outfit in the bathroom. Everything had been how it should be and he didn’t leave any new marks or beard burn on her neck.

Logan blew out a breath and she tightened her lips. And that was about the extent of what Logan and she had to say to each other. Lacy was too tired to try to come up with something new so she just looked down at the carpet.

“The football game on Sunday should be good.” Logan shifted on his feet. “Claire has to go spend time with her family. I was probably just going to watch it at home, but if you want to learn about the game, we could go to the bar and catch it. Unless you have other plans?”

Her brows furrowed as she tried to understand what exactly Logan wanted to accomplish. Was he asking because he wanted company? Was he planning on asking Jonah too? Or to see if she already had plans? Or was this supposed to be like a date?
