It’s not like I hadn’t noticed them looking, she and Finn included. But I’m also not sure why it matters. “Is that weird? I mean, I guess I assumed everyone gets a turn.” I shrug like it was no big thing, but from the look on her face, that was the wrong way to play it.
“A word of advice?”
I can hardly breathe, but I’m still capable of nodding.
“Don’t assume anything here, about anyone or anything. Understand?”
I swallow. Hold for the punch line. When it doesn’t arrive, I say, “Well, that sounds ominous.”
