“Well, I’m going to start by saying that you’re gorgeous,” Lyndi piped up.

“Uh-huh,” Aria replied, quirking a brow at her through the mirror.

“But this isn’t the one,” Shelby finished.

Aria’s shoulders sagged in relief. “Oh, thank goodness. I was afraid I was being too picky.”

“Too picky?” I parroted, ignoring her use of the same word Grayson had used about his eating habits. “You’re shopping for your wedding dress. You should be picky.”

“No, I know, but I’m a wedding planner. Do you have any idea how many wedding dresses I’ve seen? I’ve been stressing because I feel like I won’t be impressed by anything.”

The bridal consultant stepped forward, waving a hand. “It’s rare that a bride falls in love with the first dress she tries on. And even when she does, we encourage her to try on at least a few more just to make sure.”

“Okay, good. Let’s get to it then. These sleeves aren’t doing it for me.” The rest of us chuckled as Aria practically skipped back to the dressing room. She closed the door, but then she opened it again and poked her head out. “Oh, and Layla?”

“Yeah?”

“If you think I’m not dying to ask you about Zac, you’re wrong. But I’m trying to focus on this first. When we’re done here, you’d better be ready to spill your guts.”

I mock saluted her as she slipped back into the dressing room, then turned to find Lyndi staring at me with her lips pulled over to one side.

I frowned. “What?”

“Are you okay?”

In my mind, I screamed that I wasn’t. Zac had first turned my world upside down by showing up in my town, then he’d reversed its rotation on its axis by having a son. Now? I felt like a lonely planet that had been booted out of her solar system, adrift in space.

Patting my sister’s knee, I managed a smile. “I don’t know. But I’ll keep you posted.”
