“And that’s not all,” Lyndi went on. “According to Ms. Hattie, Trevor’s working tomorrow to get the grounds ready for the wedding, and Jo is supposedly bringing Grayson here to ride on the lawn mower thingy.”

I frowned. “What? Why would she do that? Is it bring your girlfriend’s nephew to work day or something?”

“I don’t think that’s a thing,” Lyndi said with a laugh. “But since we’re spending the night tonight and we’ll be here getting ready for the wedding tomorrow, I wanted to give you a heads-up so you weren’t surprised to see them.”

I imagined what that might be like, running into Jo and having to pretend that I hadn’t horribly misjudged her as the secret wife of my ex. Grayson’s presence would be welcome, though, because for some reason, I felt a connection to the kid. I was sure it was because he was half of his father, the man I loved even though I wished I didn’t. But either way, he’d likely lighten the tone of any situation he was put in with his endearing smile and big brown eyes.

“Thanks for the warning,” I said. Then I stilled, narrowing my eyes at her. “Did Ms. Hattie say if Zac was coming, too?”

“No, she didn’t.”

“Well, I know Zac, and I highly doubt he’s going to let Grayson come hang out with Jo’s new boyfriend without being there. I don’t know exactly what he’s like as a dad, of course, but I know how protective he is in general.”

Lyndi pursed her lips and sat back in her chair. “Hm, I guess you’d better get ready for another run-in, then.”

Nerves shot up my arms and neck, but to my horror, it wasn’t only nerves. It was also excitement.
