I nod. “Right. Normal guy. I’ll try to remember that.”

We both chuckle and finish our salads. The server returns with steaks. I cut into mine and my eyes roll back. “Oh my God, this is amazing,” I say, and Luke grins.

We continue eating and chatting and then it’s time for dessert. The server returns with a delicious looking peach cobbler a la mode.

“You’re going to love this.” Luke hands me a spoon.

“Does Mr. hashtag blessed have a secret sweet tooth to go along with his taco addiction?”

“Guilty.”

“I hate you even more now.”

He laughs and I squeeze my thighs together.

“You better get in here before I eat it all. I won’t show you any mercy just because you’re gorgeous.” He scoops a spoonful.

I blush at the compliment and pretend I’m offended. “You would never.”

“Try me.” He grins and shoves another scoop in his mouth. I dip my spoon in and am unprepared for the deliciousness that hits my tongue. Holy shit, he’s right. I let out a groan.

“Told you.” His lips quirk up in a playful grin.

I grab another spoonful, and we race to the finish line until the last bite sits between us. With an amused smirk, he sets the spoon down.

“Hah. Sucker.” I scoop it up and toss it in my mouth as he chuckles.

He leans back with a satisfied groan of his own that sends another bolt of heat through me. He must catch my mood because he leans closer to me and activates the tractor beam. I couldn’t tear my gaze away if I wanted to.

“Would you like to go for a walk on the beach?”

I’d go to the moon with him if he asked. I’m having a hard time bringing air into my lungs, so I nod. He stands and puts his blazer on before holding his hand out to me.

I take it, and we head to the elevator. The doors open and we step in, but I pull Luke to a stop. “Wait, we haven’t paid.” I drop his hand to open my clutch, and he rests his hand on my arm to stop me.

“Don’t worry. It’s taken care of.”

“Oh. Well, thank you. I could have pitched in.”

He pulls me by the hand into the elevator. “That’s never going to happen.”

“Why not? I’m a modern woman, Luke. Times change. Just because you’re a billionaire doesn’t mean I can’t contribute.”

“I know. But I own the place. You’d be paying me back, and that’s weird.”

He has a point. “So does that mean you’ll let me get the next one?”

The elevator door closes, and he turns and faces me, tipping my chin up to meet his eyes. “When you’re with me, you’ll never pay. I know you don’t need me to take care of you. But I want to anyway.”

“I can get on board with that, but just know I’ll never expect it.”

His gaze dips to my mouth and I inch closer, but the elevator opens, and he drops his hand from my chin. We step off the elevator and walk through the restaurant. His grip tightens a bit, and he rubs his thumb over mine without looking at me. Such a simple touch has my entire body heating.

“Have a pleasant evening, Mr. Reilly.” The same hostess gives us a friendly wave as we pass.

“Thanks, Marsha. Everything was great.” She beams at his praise.

Luke’s car is already waiting for us when we walk out the door. He lets go of my hand and pulls a hundred-dollar bill from his wallet. He hands it to Tom, who grins and says thank you.
