Chapter 5

"I'll take deal number three please," the woman tells me.

I punch the button on the computer screen, asking what toppings she wants on her extra-large pizza and how she wants her chicken wings before having her pay. Then I look at her kids.

"You guys wanna scoop the coins out, or should I?" I ask.

The two boys' eyes light up. "We'll do it," they say in unison.

I punch the button for two hundred coins to come out and hand them each a cup to put them in once they've gotten a handful.

"Enjoy." I smile.

"Thank you," the mom shouts as she goes chasing after her sons.

I look at the clock and see I only have another half an hour until my hour lunch break. God, do I need it. I'm starving, since I texted my mom the lie over having to study to avoid dinner with my parents. I'd brought my work uniform to school with me, knowing I would not be going home tonight. I’m still on a high from my date with Elijah last night, and I don't want them ruining it with their questions and worries.

"Excuse me, miss."

My head snaps up at hearing a voice that’s becoming increasingly familiar.

"Do you know if Jolie's working tonight?"

I grin at Elijah, both happy to see him and loving how sexy he looks in his pullover hoodie and jeans.

"Who should I say is asking?" I play along.

"My name's Elijah. I'm hoping she'll remember me. Because I haven't been able to get her off my mind."

I try to hide my smile. "I have a feeling that she'll be able to recall you. Let me go in the back and see if I can find her."

Knowing my manager will probably be watching me on the monitor and wondering why the hell I'm going into the back room just to walk back out, I do it anyway. I gasp, letting my mouth drop open in shock.

"Elijah!" I exclaim. "What a surprise. What are you doing here?"

He chuckles. "I couldn't wait until this weekend to see you again. I hope it's alright I came here."

"More than alright. If we weren't at my job, I'd be kissing you right now."

He grins. "Good to know. So, how many coins will keep me preoccupied until your lunch break?"

"Hmm, I'd say you should get deal number one so by the time I go on lunch, there'll be a steaming hot pizza waiting on your table for me and you to share. And that comes with fifty coins."

"I like that idea. I'll take that one."

I nod and he hands over his card as I put his choice into the computer. The coins begin to disperse from the side of the register. I hand him a cup, and he scoops them out after putting his card back in his wallet.

"Which game do you recommend first?" he asks.

"I'd go with the skee ball." I lean forward. "It's broken and gives out way too many tickets, even if you lose."

"So little faith in me." He shakes his head, smiling. "I'll see you at eight."

He walks away, shooting me a look over his shoulder that suddenly has my uniform feeling much too hot. It's hard to focus for the next half hour when I can see straight to the skee ball game, and it gives me a perfect view of Elijah's ass every time he bends down to get another ball. He looks back at me, grinning in a way that makes it hard not to rub my thighs together. I've never wanted my lunch break to come so badly.

Finally my coworker comes off the floor to take my place. I rush to put my break time into the computer and practically dart from behind the counter towards Elijah. He's bent down, taking another stack of tickets out of the game when I reach him. I throw my arms around his waist from behind, and he reaches back for me. His arms are warm against the bare skin of my forearms. I put my nose to his hoodie, inhaling the smell that seems like it's been away from me for much longer than a day. Or this morning when I held the hoodie in my room to my nose before I went to class.

"So how many tickets did you get?" I inquire.
