You already have. The words cross my mind without hesitation, and the realization makes me smile to myself.

"I do have a rule I want us to abide by tonight," Jolie says. "Just for tonight."

"Okay." I glance over at the nervousness I can hear in her voice.

"No talking about Callie and Ben tonight. Only us on this date. Not their ghosts. Tonight is ours."

I nod. "Okay. And we're here."

I pull up to the restaurant and Jolie's eyes widen when she looks out the window. Probably the classiest place I've ever eaten, the restaurant is bustling with people. The wall of windows makes it easy to see diners enjoying their meals as I hand my keys to the valet after he opens Jolie's door. She wraps her hand around the crook of my arm, and I lead her to the door.

"Reservation under Elijah Moores." I tell the hostess when she greets us.

She nods. "Follow me to your table."

I put my hand on Jolie's lower back and let her walk ahead of me. Once we reach our table, I pull out her chair as the hostess places the menus down and tells us a server will be with us shortly.

"This place is amazing. I dare say you're trying to impress me Mr. Moores."

"Well, is it working?" I chuckle.

"Oh, most definitely. Have you been here before?"

"No. But I did scour the menu before deciding on bringing you here, so I am confident we'll eat good."

She picks up her menu and looks it over. "I have to concur with that. Although they'll probably think I'm pretty weird when I order ice cream as an appetizer."

I laugh. "I don't think you're weird...anymore."

Her mouth drops open before she closes it to smirk. "Well apparently you like my weirdness now."

"I do."

The server comes, and he does indeed give Jolie a confused look when she asks for the fudge sundae to come before our dinners arrive. And a few minutes later, a sundae is placed in front of her and short rib tacos in front of me. I shouldn't watch her lick the spoon, shouldn't be imagining where else I want her mouth, and yet I can't take my eyes away from her. Her grin around the spoon tells me she notices.

"I'm starting to feel like another conversation needs to happen about what your thoughts are," she says low.

"And again, it would not be appropriate for where we are."

"I like that entirely too much." Then she chuckles. "But given the way the last conversation was interrupted..."

I shake my head, smiling. "She totally meant to do that, by the way."

"Yeah. I kinda figured that out from the way her eyes were filled with amusement at our embarrassment."

"I actually dropped her off at the airport before I came to pick you up. Her and her friends are spending the weekend in Vegas, hopefully winning money instead of losing it."

"I've always wanted to go there. Not to gamble, because I'm sure I would lose every cent I had, but just to go to places like four in the morning, see a concert or something."

"I would tell you to tag along with my grandma, but I have a feeling those trips get a little crazy. Last time, she came back with some, uhh, penis-shaped items."

"No." She gasps, then laughs. "Oh my God, you're getting red just now even remembering it."

I shudder at the memory and the way my grandma laughed so hard she had to hold her stomach as I shrieked and throw the straw away.

"There are some things you should never, ever see your grandma with," I say.

"I'm gonna have to agree on that one."
