"I was in a rush." She grins.

I keep the light on her as she steps into them, just so I can see her ass as she wiggles into her pants. Then I look at the time on my phone.

"We have five minutes until your break is over," I tell her.

"Just enough time for one slice then. Let me check to make sure no one's there first."

Jolie opens the door and peeks her head out for a second before walking out and waving for me to follow. I chuckle when we get into the light and I see her hair, loose strands all over the place, clearly looking like she was doing, well exactly what we were just doing. Stepping forward, I push her hair back from her face. She smiles up at me and gives me another kiss before we begin walking back to the main part of the building.

Some of her co-workers give us weird looks when we walk out of the area we were in, and I'm hoping it's because there are only supposed to be employees in the back. Not because they know what we just did in that closet. Jolie takes me over to the food court, and we each get a slice and sit at the counter to eat it.

Jolie sighs. "Time to clock back in."

"You'll call me later?"

"I will. I promise. And... I am sorry."

"You don't have to be. Just talk to me if you're confused about us. I dare say the only people who can explain me and you, are me and you."

She grins. "Very true. I love you."

"I love you too."

We kiss and I walk with her back to the front desk, feeling much lighter than when I stood here a little while ago. She gives me a small wave when I turn around to get one more look at her before I go. Walking back to my car, hell damn near skipping back to my car, I get in with a smile.

I drive back home, weight lifted off my chest, heart full of hope again.

"So do I clap for you or get you a tissue?" My grandma asks.

"You have such a way with words." I laugh.

"Ah, so the clap then, as your laugh tells me. So you worked things out?"

"Yeah. Just some confusion."

"See? Face to face is so much better than those stupid gadgets you kids use for everything."

"You text with your friends all day, Grandma."

"Yes, but we remember a time when phones were attached to walls, so we still meet up and talk face to face as well."

"Yes, to schedule your Vegas trips."

"Hey, hey. This time we're gonna switch it up and go to Atlantic City."

I shake my head. "That city better watch out with y’all coming."

She grins. "You got that right. I'm glad you went to see her though. So I don't have to watch you walk around here like a sad puppy anymore."

"I was not." I chuckle.

"You were. It's good though. It should tear you up inside when you think you're losing someone you love. If it didn't hurt than that tells you it isn't what you thought it was. And did you tell Jolie yet? That you love her?"

"Yes."

"Good. Now we just have to get through this awful dinner and then we can celebrate your birthday with Jolie."

The dinner. God, I'd actually let myself forget about that for a little while. Not having been to work today or yesterday, I hadn't had Denise breathing down my neck to talk to her mother with her. Hadn't had the constant reminder of the dinner. It's a week away. So far but seems to close. I just want to get it over with, and hope that next year, they won't do a dinner at all. Whatever the chances are of that.
