I headed to the door. “I might check out the town a little,” I said, half to inform Kyle, and half because I wanted Monique’s attention on me.

“Okay.” Kyle threw back the bedcovers, slid into bed and waved us out. “I’ll see you when you get back.”

My momentary flare of jealousy dissipated. I chuckled and walked out of the room, Monique right behind me.

When she slanted a quizzical look at me, I said, “That guy can sleep anywhere, any time. It’s a gift. Really.”

With a shy smile, she ducked past me in the hallway.

I inhaled deeply, loving the smell of her. Like roses and sweet honey. I wanted to gobble her up.

“Would you like a tour of the town?” she asked, her voice a little higher than usual.

Did she feel this sense of connection, too?

Suddenly, I didn’t feel like wandering the town. I wanted to stay right here with Monique, and get to know her a bit better.

I grinned, unable to stop myself from enjoying how nervous she was. I hoped those nerves meant she was affected by my presence. I sure as hell was affected by hers.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, pressing her a little.

She skittered over to the shelves above the stove and reached for a blue mug. “Nothing at all. Can I get you a drink?”

I nodded. “Yes. Please.”

“What would you like?”

Your pussy.

“Juice. Soda. Whatever you’ve got.”

She stared at me with her big, wide eyes. Had she heard my thoughts? If so, maybe I should just be truthful and say it out loud?

I want you, Monique.

She jumped to grab a glass then rushed to the fridge. “I have juice.”

She poured me a glass of a strange orangey-red drink. When I reached for her outstretched hand holding out the glass, our fingers touched. She yelped as though I’d hurt her and let go of the glass.

I had to dive for it, spilling half of the drink on the floor before I could save it.

“What the hell is this?” She wrung her fingers.

“What is... what?” Slowly, I placed the glass down on the table.

When she didn’t reply, I stalked forward. She moved back until she was pressed against the cupboard behind her and had nowhere else to retreat.

I walked up and slid my hands around her waist. I could tell she wasn’t afraid, though her eyes were wide and shimmered with purply-silver magic. The scent of her was all heat and arousal. Not fear.

I stared down at her and her lips parted as if ready for my kiss.

“Are you talking about this attraction?” I whispered, pressing so close her hip bones jutted into me.

She nodded, gripping my arms. “Yes. If that’s what this is called.”

“What do you feel?” I asked, moving one of my hands up to cup her beautiful face, exulting in the hot waves of lust rolling over me.

It had been so long since I’d felt like this.
